Darkpaw had woken up earlier to find they were low on several of the herbs, and name she was just outside of camp tasting the air for any close herbs. Being blind meant that she had to tell her mentor whenever she left camp, but her mentor and the other medicine cat and her apprentice would be here shortly to help collect some herbs. They must of all realized by now that they were low on several of the herbs, or a lot of them were stale. She sat down curling her tail over her paws waiting for Ravenheart, Crowflower, and Quailpaw to arrive.

Quailpaw padded out of the camp quietly, letting his ears listen to the sounds of the forest as he normally did. He let himself relax as he often did when he entered the forest outside of the camp. But he had to remind himself this wasn't just a normal stroll, this was a medicine cat patrol so that they could look for herbs. Crowflower had told him that Darkpaw wouldn't be too far off, so he supposed that he wouldn't have much if any real time to himself. He reminded himself that he would, at some point, have to just go take a stroll. Perhaps it would clear his mind a bit, make him feel a bit more focused about what he needed to do.
He walked for just a bit more before he noticed the familiar scent of Darkpaw. He raised his gaze, noticing that his fellow apprentice was sitting down and seemed pretty relaxed for the moment. " Hello Darkpaw." He said calmly before he sat down next to the apprentice, still keeping a good enough distance from her though. He hadn't really had a chance to get to know her- and he wasn't really a 'get to know other felines' kinda cat, so he had never really tried either. All he really knew about her is that she seemed to like being alone, and that she was blind. For Quailpaw, he felt a bit bad about only knowing so much- afterall, they would be in the same den for moons to come, and they would probably learn everything together!
Quailpaw halted his thoughts for a moment, realizing that he did have alot of time to get to know her. I'll have plenty of time, stop worrying! He tried to tell himself, before taking a deep breath and looking around, seeing if there was anything interesting in sight. " How are you today?" He asked before he realized something had even slipped out of his mouth. He supposed he couldn't help it: he wanted to befriend ones he found similar to him, ones that seemed to love healing. Perhaps he would get lucky and they would actually have a decent conversation before their mentors got here.
But then again, Quailpaw does an awful lot of wishful thinking.

Darkpaw had been lost in her own thoughts when the scent of cat washed over her. She recognized the scent as Quailpaw and heard the tom come to a stop beside her.
"Hello Darkpaw."
Darkpaw pricked her ears when she realized that he was speaking to her and she turned her head towards him and dipped her head. She didn't really say much she was usually grumpy, but she was determined to at least be friendly to the cats she had to work with. She was also a strong silent type, part of it was, because of her shyness, but she was starting to get over her shyness, and the other part was just that she never had anything to say. She was so focused on her thoughts that she almost missed his next question.
"How are you today?"
"I am fine thank you, and you?" she meowed trying her best to be polite, but it came out more rushed like she was afraid of saying to much. Though she had nothing to hide she wasn't big on showing her emotions. Even though she was blind no one had choosen for her to be a medicine cat she had choosen it herself. Though she had wanted to be a warrior she figured that it was better to accept the fact the she would have never been able to be a true warrior then to make a big deal out of nothing. Besides it wasn't like she had been planning on having a mate when she was older she didn't even believe in love, but that was only her opion others probably found her a little strange, because she didn't believe in love, but she had stopped caring what her clan mates thought about her a long time ago.

Ah, the sun felt so wonderful todaay.
While not an activity Ravenheart took part in often, it definitely was one that was worth the wait.
What activity, pray tell, would this be?
Well, sunning of course.
Seeing as he had nothing else to really do that day, seeing as Crowflower was a mite busy, Quailpaw was probably with him, and...
Oh, crap.
Zeus above, he was an idiot.
Ravenheart jerked himself upright and stretched. He'd completely forgot. He was supposed to be collecting herbs with his new apprentice today. What was the cat's name? Darkpaw. Yes, Darkpaw. She was blind.
How the Holy Dooley did I forget?
Done with stretching, Ravenheart immediately ran towards the medicine den. As he stepped inside he announced, "Sorry Darkpaw I got a mite distracted with something and kinda forgot that I was supposed to be collecting herbs with you today and-"
Oh.
Quailpaw was here.
"Oh. Uh, g'day Quailpaw. Where's Crowflower?"
Welp, this couldn't get any more embarrassing.
ooc - sorry about the late post, like raven i got a mite distracted with busloads of other stuff. >.o

Darkpaw pricked her ears at her mentors voice, and turned towards Ravenheart drawing in her scent. "Hello," she meowed to her mentor since she was blind her sense of smell and hearing was stronger then most cats. "I don't mind you being late," she told her mentor not even blinking. She was quite use to her clan mates forgetting that she existed, and she was okay with it, she was use to being alone, and got annoyed when her clan mates thought they needed to help her, or that she was helpless. "Did you sleep well?" she asked her mentor trying to strike up a conversation.

Crowflower had arisen in a very eclectic mood this morning. The first traces of birdsong had been bouncing off of tree trunks and various other solid objects, echoing faintly in the forest, and he'd had half a mind to open his maw and join them.
... okay, he'd had more than half a mind. It had really been his overwhelming desire, to sing with the birds. He'd nearly opened his mouth and tried, but then he remembered that cats didn't sing. So he'd pouted his way into the forest and tried to teach himself to sing, succeeding only in producing a queer chirping noise at best. At the worst, he'd sounded like he'd been exposed to smoke every day of his life at the age of, say, No-ears. Yes, he'd had a very interesting day thus far indeed.
Now, his current situation was somewhat of a pickle. You see, he'd been so caught up with trying to force his vocal cords into shapes that they weren't meant to bend into that he'd lost track of time and was now awkwardly late for his... could you call it a date without it being weird? His rendezvous with all the healing personnel of his clan. No doubt they were all waiting for him, wondering where he was, while he was sitting on nice, mossy, knoll-ish-type-thing losing himself in the beauty of his home.
How irresponsible of him, enjoying himself. Who did that, anyway? Life was all work, work, work, and nobody expected you to enjoy doing anything but work.
BLAH. Responsibility. He had it, he should own up to it. At the moment, he really didn't want to, though. Didn't he deserve the occasional break? He was barely over a year old, for Flowers' sake! And he was expected to mentor Quailpaw. By all the stars in the heavens and the power of love, how was he to do that? He'd barely had any experience with anything! You can't escape your own thoughts, Crowflower, no matter how far from camp you take yourself. Just go back and meet them, kiddo. Quit being a dodger and face stuff head-on. Besides, they're calling for you.
On the bright and shiny side of things, he'd gotten the more normal of the two apprentices. Sometimes looking at Darkpaw gave him the chills. She just seemed... off, to him. Couldn't quite place his toe on it, but there was something very strange about that blind, defenseless little she-cat. He would ask Ravenheart if he'd noticed anything strange about her, but he barely spent any time mentoring her. He wasn't exactly very likely to know if anything was off when all he ever had her do was sort herbs based on their scents or anything low-key that didn't require his full and pressing attention. Had he every truly spoken to her? By the earth, that tom! He was a good friend, but that didn't mean that Crowflower couldn't take issue with the way he handled his responsibilities.
Not that he handled his perfectly, either. But Ravenheart was a mature, fully grown tom. One would expect more of him than of Crowflower. So why was Crowflower delivering more?
All these things tumbling around in his head made him feel a bit grim as he made his way to his colleagues, but he put on a smile anyway. He never felt any better when he wasn't smiling, so he might as well smile anyway. It helped some. He was sure that he'd be able to find a way to handle his responsibilities. He'd just have to start small.
" 'M right here, Ravenheart. No worries. I just took a walk at dawn is all. Guess I got a bit further off than I expected," |
he mewed easily. He winked at Quailpaw, grinning, trying to take away the awkwardness of him being the last to show up. "Well, should we be off, then? Time's a-wastin'. Or. Well. Moving. It's moving. Time can't be wasted very well, I think. Somebody's always making use of it. Somewhere. Um." Heat flooded his face. What had just happened to that whole getting rid of the awkwardness thing? "I'm... I'm just going to stop talking about time now. Let's just go." He motioned with his tail for Ravenheart to take the lead. He was the elder, after all. Crowflower was barely out of apprenticeship himself, and he was nothing if not respectful to those deserving of respect. While Darkpaw was waiting for her mentor to answer her question Crowflowers scent washed over her and she pricked her ears as the other medicine cat apologized for being late. Darkpaw didn't really pay much attention to what Crowflower was saying, but she could sense the awkwardness coming off him. "Yes let's just go, the faster we get the herbs the faster we can store them and have them ready for injured cats," she meowed flicking her ears.
While she waiting for everyone to be ready she decided to groom her fur and quickly groomed it. 'I hope that the dew has burned off of the herbs by now,' she thought. Being blind meant that she couldn't tell if it was dawn or sun high.

Quailpaw was about to answer Darkpaw when Ravenheart showed up, apologizing and rambling a bit about not being here on time. The large apprentice smiled a tiny bit, awkwardly wrapping his large tail around his paws before hearing the black tom speak once more.
" Oh. Uh, g'day Quailpaw. Where's Crowflower? "
|
The apprentice blinked, had he not realized he was there? Quailpaw usually appreciated when nobody noticed him, but it was kinda hard not to. With his bulky and slightly fluffy appearance, it was hard to miss him. Once again, he opened his mouth to speak when Crowflower decided to show up. He looked up at him, smiling a bit as his mentor began to ramble a bit. He couldn't help but wonder if eventually all medicine cats just gained the rambling trait. His mentor winked at him, and Quailpaw couldn't help but smirk a tiny bit. He had to admit, as strange as his mentor might seemed, he wouldn't want any other tom to train him. He rose to his paws, stretching a little bit so that he could limber up- even if there wasn't much to be limber for. There wasn't much running around to do- not now anyway. Maybe if one day they finally had to heal someone during a battle, or search the area for a certain herb within an amount of time. Besides that, they really didn't do much. He couldn't really remember the last time he saw them doing something that required much energy. Walking around in the woods? Laying down and enjoying the sun's warmth? Sorting herbs? Yea, not much paw work was involved. “speaking color.”[/blockquote]
