"No, it's not just us three who have to live with our decisions. It's the whole Clan. I'm not stupid, Elkstep. And until now, no one's ever spoken a word of discomfort against the choices we've made for the Clan. So, if so many of you did, why did no one bring it to our attention? We aren't tyrants. We want what is best for everyone. And if you doubt that, I'd rather you say it to my face then just tell everyone else that I'm some unfair cat who was chosen in her position just because Cedarstar liked her." she spoke sharply, continuing down her path. Logic had been thrown to the wind. Littlewshiker's rage at his assumptions had led her to scream more than she had meant.
But did she regret it? Absolutely not. Did that sometimes mouse-brained Cedarstar choose favorites? Yes. But Elkstep had to look past that. Clan-life was more than noticing things that were surprisingly common. Favorites? Every Clan leader she had known in her life had had them. Others... just made it less obvious. But regardless of the fact that Cedarstar made everything he did blatantly obvious, Elkstep couldn't just go and point this out whenever he wanted, and then use it in his demented theory that Cedarstar wanted to keep control to Forestclanners.
Because it simply wasn't true.
"Being given an apprentice isn't something every warrior gets to do! Stop acting like we're against you. We're all on the same side! Even if Cedarstar doesn't trust your methods, he trusts you'll make Foxpaw into a good warrior. Isn't that enough for you?!" she exclaimed, digging her claws into the soft ground below her. Littlewhisker ignored Palefoot's comment. For now, she wanted to keep the newly made warrior out of this. She didn't need to get involved. If Littlewhisker had it her way, this would all blow over and Elkstep would just come to his senses.
"I'm aware of his favoritism. It's as blatant as a fox streaking through the Nursery. I wouldn't be surprised if everyone knew. But the difference is I trust him enough to know that his idiotic favoriting will only go so far. He will eventually pick non-Forestclanners. They just hadn't learned enough of Clan ways! But irregardless of that, in any fight Cedarstar would trust his life in the hands of any cat in the Clan. If you couldn't call that trust, then why bother staying with us at all?" she hissed, moving on with or without the tom. Turning to Palefoot, Littlewhisker sighed exasperatedly.
"Palefoot, I'd like to think of it that way too. But some cats are just too blinded by their rage to see beyond to the truth."
