Please tell me he knows exactly what I mean when I said follow your nose. She watched her apprentice stand there, staring at her baffled before suddenly he turned away and he started tasting and following the air. Like that...
Suddenly he started walking off and inclined for her to follow with his tail. Lowering her body down slightly, she stalked after him. Her brown tawny fur ruffling slightly in the small breeze that buffeted her fur.
She instantly made sure to be prepared if he miscalculated his pounce and missed the rodent completely. She was careful of where her body brushed and she pinned her ears back, the meadow rustled softly beside her and she could smell and taste the live rabbit. He was following that rabbit!
Not only was it time to watch the apprentices attempt of catching his second prey and first time without her guidance, but this rabbit was quite big and probably faster too. He had a lot to learn before he was able to master hunting, even if he was able to catch animals before his thorough training was even completed.
Sparrowclaw lifted her head slightly, her green eyes flashed with nostalgia as she remembered the first time she caught a squirrel while she was in the meadowclan territory and before she was able to eat it, she was pushed away. Ah, the good old times when she was an apprentice or at least an older apprentice.

Using all he could remember from what his mentor had done that day before- knowing it would smell him before hearing him, he made sure to get downwind of the rabbit, so it didn't smell him coming, keep as quiet as he could. Slowly, paw by paw, he crept up on the unsuspecting rabbit, conscious the whole time of his mentor's watchful eye, but he didn't let it bother him; he was intently focused on his prey. With a swish of his tail, he leapt, landing exactly on top of the rabbit, which squealed; before it could make any more noise, he'd already killed it with a lunge and a bite.
He looked surprised to have caught such a big rabbit, and raised his head in a silent 'thank you' to Starclan.

"Good job!" she meowed, walking beside him. "Now dig a hole to cover your prey, we have a long day ahead of us."
Now that was said, it was time for the downside. "I'm going to tell you something you must work on. One, your tail has to stay low and out of sight, yet not move whatsoever. Two, be sure to give a quick kill and prevent it from shrieking at all. This will alert all the animals nearby and when they run or hide, it will alert the prey they run past and they will hide too. Eventually a big chain happens and no prey will be found in the whole territory all because of one prey getting killed." she took a deep breath after finishing, letting him process what she said before proceeding. "Never move your tail and don't focus on your prey too much, you will end up making a mess with your paws and your leap."
Next was the leap. "Not bad on the leap, in fact it was very good. Just don't swish your tail, it will rustle the undergrowth. Especially in the grass!" she walked past him, glancing back. Hearing a squirrel cautiously sneak down a tree and look around, tasting the air and then beginning to dig for nuts she gestured with her head. "Watch" she hissed quietly, lowering her belly down and slowly walking towards her prey. With each paw step she carefully placed them a step away from each other, stretching them out in front of her and softly pressing the pads to the ground before she could see the squirrel through the long blades of grass that towered above them. Lowering her tail down and stretching it out, she pushed herself backwards and shifted all her weight onto her hind legs before springing and landing squarely on top of the squirrel, cutting it off from making any side whatsoever and picking it up by the neck.
Digging a hole, she dropped the squirrel in and covered it up. "There." she turned to face her apprentice and smiled. "Your hunting techniques is good, congratulations for knowing you had to hide downwind from prey to be able to hunt it." She let out a purr and then stretched. "Practice your technique and next I will show you how to hunt in open spaces with the long grass." She gestured with her head to the grass that swayed in the centre of the meadow. "Be careful of the adders though, for starclans sake!" she wasn't going to lose her apprentice this easily.
