Those caps were completely necessary. not really
Sometime in the future, Jaegerstar will be rejecting her eight additional lives. The actual trigger for this is up in the air (several things are in motion right now which could lead to it), but I assure you this is very much in character for her. She sees this action as right if not necessary to upholding her honor and that of her clan, and it has as much to do with the questionable fairness of having a nine-live advantage as it does with how respectful the faith (religion of starclan, etc) is.
But at the risk of too many spoilers and outlining the roleplay itself, I won't go any further than that at the moment.
The other clans (if they find out) will react as they may, but the real question is how will/would Starclan react? What might the repercussions for Streamclan and its future leaders be? Thoughts and opinions.
Personally, I don't think Starclan is going to unleash any godly wrath or anything on Stream just because Jeager rejects their gift. They might be a little pissed, or more likely, disappointed, but I don't see any real repercussions. The real 'danger' if there even is any, might come from the reactions of the other clans. BUT. I know some people might think differently, so, I would very much like to get their opinion on this.

STARCLAN:
1. They are very, very old. Age gives room for wisdom and understanding. They’re going to accept Jaegerstar’s choices for what they are and move on.
2. I also feel that Starclan punishing anyone for not believing in them or not accepting the extra lives is wrong. It doesn’t feel like something Starclan would do at all.
3. Medicine cats would still be sent visions and participate in other Starclan-y things if they’re believers. Obviously a non-believer is not going to have any of that happen to them.
4. If Starclan punishes someone, it’s because they truly deserve it. I understand that Starclan also punishes cats for breaking the code (which I have issues with, but oh well), but this isn’t quite the same thing. It’s a tradition. Some of you might argue that traditions might as well be codes or just as important, but look at Pineclan. Starclan hasn’t done jack squat to them and they’re full of non-believers who are lead by a non-believer with only 1 life. They’re a freaking clan made for non-believers.
5. ON THE FLIP SIDE: Starclan worries that Jaegerstar’s choices might cause Streamclan BIG ISSUES and make her have the extra lives. No need to go out of there way and give the clan trouble for what Jaegerstar did/believes.
6. Worst case scenario: Jaegerstar has the extra lives anyway OR Starclan does nothing and are just disappointed/worried.
OVER ALL: Starclan doesn’t punish Jaegerstar or her clan.
STREAMCLAN:
1. I think at the worst there will be unhappy cats or a lot of opinions about Jaegerstar’s choice. Maybe a few disputes. I sincerely doubt an uprising because Jaegerstar didn’t want extra lives. But if one does happen, then it happens.
OVER ALL: Streamclan faces issues and problems within itself.
OTHER CLANS:
1. First of all: Pineclan is not going to give a crap about Jaegerstar’s choice. In fact, they’ll probably laugh themselves sick about it. If Pineclan has any possibility of caring about it, Jaegerstar’s choice better be affecting them in some horrific manner.
2. If Fogclan and Meadowclan learn of Jaegerstar’s choice, there might be some problems, especially with the believers.
3. MEADOWCLAN might fear that any non-believing cat that becomes leader and rejects the extra lives will weaken them. A leader that only has 1 life or dies too soon might cripple the clan, by a lot or a little (depending on the clan’s current status).
4. FOGCLAN might think the same thing, but instead of letting a non-believer become leader, they make a rule. Yes, a rule, because I feel that with Miststar and Volepelt being as crazy as they are, they would do something like this. THE RULE: check to see the leader is really a believer by killing them. If they come back to life, they’re a believer and have eight lives (which is still a lot). If they don’t come back to life... well, good riddance.
OVER ALL: The other clans will have issues within themselves, especially Fogclan. During all of that, Pineclan is LOLing about it and cracking jokes about being a better influence than Fogclcan.
That is all~

I'll rehash my points and add some new ones.
As I said on the cbox: "It interests me that Jaeger would reject her lives. I wonder if she even can get rid of them."
I doubt she even COULD get rid of her nine lives, the whole 'once it's taken, it can't be returned' philosophy, no? It's kind of hard to make StarClan do anything they don't want to.
Also, lives aren't exactly like currency - they vary from leader to leader. Jaegerstar's lives were given to her by cats from her personal past and/or ancestors. She went through a very painful process to receive them and though PineClan is an exception, they validate her status as leader. They can't exactly be ripped from her soul, methinks.
I'm NOT saying Jaeger couldn't be leader without the lives in any way in case anyone feels like getting butthurt. I'm just stating facts here.
Because in the books there's always nine lives for the leader of a Clan, THOUGH if a leader retires with one life left, the new leader won't get that life until they die. Jaeger might break the cycle of leaders' lives if she tries to give hers back. That could have serious repurcussions for Stream's leaders."
Assuming Jaeger even could, as stated before. Though I now realize that "serious" is probably too strong of a word, if cats did find out I still think it would cause more of a stir than just 'oh, okay, moving on now.' It's a seriously important tradition.
I do agree with Slug that StarClan wouldn't "punish" the Clan per se, but I don't think they'd be wholly approving of it either. I mean dude. It's like being given a bag of diamonds and then saying 'nope, take it back, I don't anything to with these diamonds anymore no matter how valuable they are. Kthxbye.'
It's not StarClan's fault that FogClan is currently run by someone who's insane, either. It might be unfair of StarClan if they /would/ be pissed at Jaeger for rejecting her lives, but come on, is it their fault that cats do terrible things in their name? They might urge her to hang onto her lives to prove that StarClan-gifted leaders ARE good and responsible.
True, deputies, but what if the deputy didn't approve of Jaeger's choice and the Clan was divided in opinion because of it? I don't think StarClan would want that kind of turmoil.
That stated I doubt it would happen but it's still a possibility. Avoid a problem rather than having to solve it, you know?
No, not all leaders are going to be the same as Jaegerstar, but /what if/ it is a cyclic thing and breaking it would mess it up? She might not be as respected by MeadowClan and FogClan, either. I doubt they'd start a war over it (that would actually be kind of funny) but I think they'd be disturbed.
...Slug, do you REALLY think that honorable warriors are going to KILL their own leader just to check that? I mean come on. XD
Apologies if my own is a tad disorganized.

@cloudie:
I don't think that will be a completely terrible repercussion. It's only one life and I think having eight lives to use are a whole bunch. If the new leader is feeling extremely ambitious about that one life, they might try to get it by killing Jaeger . As you said, they won't get that life until they die.
... Now, if the new leader isn't ambitious about that one life, I can say that when they have one life left it could lead to some interesting... drama, for a lack of a better term. As the leader, they should have that extra life, but what about Jaeger? Shouldn't she get to live, too? What are they going to do about that extra life when they need it most? Would Jaeger give it up? Or would she feel that having an extra life is still considered "cheating", even when she isn't the leader anymore? IF she lives that long where the new leader only has one life left (but for some reason, I'm doubting that).
And I really doubt that the new leader is going to lose that many lives before Jaeger dies. Unless they're the most unluckiest cat in existence, then maybe. Anyway, when Jaeger does die, they get that extra life and once they do, all is restored. I would think that if there is any cyclic thing that gets broken would be fixed when Jaeger dies.
Rejecting her extra lives isn’t really breaking a cycle, if there is one. The deputy is going to get those lives, which is still continuing the cycle, just minus one. And when Jaeger dies, I think the cycle will be perfectly back on track. Ta da~
NOW there is the problem where if a leader becomes leader solely just to claim nine lives and then skedaddle off with them and live forever while Streamclan (or any other clan) has to make do with a one-life-only leader, then... ooh, that’s actually interesting. Unlikely, but the potential to be very plot-y. Hm.
LOL my brain. xD
Anyway, it's realistic that Jaeger is going to die way before the new leader is going to really, desperately, has to have that one life of Jaeger's. Just sayin'.
I'm starting to feel really bad when I talk about Jaeger dying. xD' SORRY PYRO.
And then there is the option of Jaeger lying her ass off if she’s the kind of cat to do that.
I don’t think the deputy is going to have a problem with Jaeger’s choices. He gets eight lives and when she dies, he’ll get nine. No one will ever know of Jaeger’s choices so long as she doesn’t tell anyone else about it (except maybe the medicine cat). If they do have a problem with it, then what are they going to do about it? Kill Jaeger? Lolno, that will be very bad in the eyes of Streamclan (and Starclan) kitties. If they know better, if they have the patience, they can wait it out.
Which means no drama in Streamclan or with the deputy.
If the deputy is like that, anyway.
As for the medicine cat... they might be concerned that they won’t have visions/etc from Starclan if Jaeger does this. Then again, Starclan could still send them visions and not speak a word about Jaeger’s choice, either. That way Jaeger gets what she wants, Starclan doesn’t have to upset or force Jaeger into something she doesn’t want to do, the cycle will fix itself in time, etc. All is good in the world.
The whole LIE, LIE, LIE, MORE LYING thing would depend on the how the deputy is portrayed as and what Pyro decides to write Starclan reaction as. P: Or whoever is writing Starclan... ? I’unno. |D Are you guys even roleplaying Starclan LOL.
I mean, it’s not just Pyro here. There’s the deputy, the medicine cat, and Starclan. *shrugs* I think it’d be mostly up to their players on how the extra lives and rejecting them and such and such would go, because:
1. the person playing the deputy is only going to have eight lives 2. the medicine cat can be told by Starclan that Jaeger did a no-no 3. Starclan. Who the hell is doing Starclan xD Anyone?
Those peeps are mostly the ones to figure that out. *ahem*
I’m just realizing we’re here just to give opinions (mostly) about Starclan’s reactions, but instead we’re talking about ~EVERYTHING~
But moving on. |D
YES OMGBBQ AJDKSGKAG. I THINK THEY’RE ALL CRAZY or at least the inner/high council/what do you call those psychos. I’m sure they can just kill the leader in private and be like, “Oh, they were blasphemous non-believers and for their blah blah blah, Starclan has struck them down by channeling their justice through our fangs and our claws.”
Or whatever.
I’m sorry if I sound discriminating against them, but. xD Gurrrl, they are cray-cray, okay? Okay. I know Volepelt and whoever else can’t really help being who they are, but they make my imagination run away from me.
is rolo somewhere laughing at me, I bet she is
Sorry for the giant choppy (and maybe slightly ignorant) post, but there you have it. e^e
