OOC: This is a meeting following the events of this thread, Into the Earth, in which Cedarstar lost his second life to a fox. Russetfoot, who was with him, failed to save him.
So here he is with her as his witness to report it! Will he blame Russetfoot because of her kittypet heritage? Will he try to defuse things?
Let's find out! /bricked for all the cliche-cheese-ness.
BIC: After he and Russetfoot had returned to camp, Cedarstar took a few minutes in his den to straighten out his pelt and clean the blood from it. No use looking like a ragamuffin before the entire Clan when he had serious news to deliver.
In minutes he was up on the Highrock.
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Highrock for a Clan meeting!" Yowled the leader in the traditional way.
When the majority of MeadowClan had gathered, he cleared his throat and began.
"Cats of MeadowClan, I have grave news. I have lost my second life to a fox. It is dead now, but we both need to dispose of it as well as investigate the area to see if there were any others - a mate, or cubs." He said grimly.
"As no traces have been found lately that have been reported, my hopes are that it was merely a wanderer. Still, we must check, as well as move the corpse so larger predators are not attracted into our hunting grounds. A patrol of our finest trackers and fighters will be sent out immediately after this meeting.
Russetfoot was with me at the time and she can offer additional information she may have witnessed while I recovered from death, if she would like to add anything. She will also co-lead the patrol later with Sparrowclaw."
He nodded at the solid brown she-cat in the crowd, offering her the chance to speak if she wished. He hoped she would.
If I show support for her despite her failure, it should send a strong message to those fops who monger rumors about my 'bias.' Having her lead the patrol with my somewhat prejudiced deputy should also encourage Sparrowclaw to work with a cat of non-Clan heritage.
See, Oaknose? I am taking everything into account and planning accordingly.

Russetfoot sat within the crowd, her belly feeling more churned than it normally had. She was within the crowd, yet she felt more stuck out than she normally did. After the encounter with the fox, she was more shook up than she had ever felt before. She was not one for fighting, for panicking, for seeing another cat die. Shivers were sent through her coat as memories of her brother came rushing back to her. She could imagine the whole scene as if it was crystal clear in front of her eyes. She vision burned her, and she wished she could get away.
But no, instead, she was surrounded by her clanmates as Cedarstar announced that he had lost another life. She couldn't hide, she couldn't take her time to scrape the images of her dying brother out of her skull. No, she had to sit right here and be with her clanmates.
And they were all staring right at her. Russetfoot blinked as she looked up to Cedarstar, noticing that he wanted her to speak. What was she to say? Her mind raced, and the only images she could see were those of her brother. Over, and over, and over again. Her ears rung with his last cries, and she felt the silence deafening her as they all waited. Within the seconds that all of this ran through her head, she got to her paws and took a tiny breath and began to speak.
" I agree with Cedarstar, the fox seemed to be a loner. " She said, still hoping with all of her mind that something else would come to her. With all of these eyes on her, it was making it hard to think. " It was quite strong, and certainly took us by surprise. It seemed very aggressive, and must have thought that we were in its territory. " She spoke with certainty, even though she barley had anything certain at all. " I had to give it a last few blows after Cedarstar had fought it and went down, but other than i have nothing to report. " She said, looking back up to Cedarstar. Hopefully that was the right thing to say. She thought with a bit of worry, feeling her clanmates eyes still boring into her fur.
