Of all the times of day, Crowflower always felt the strangest at night. The flowers were sleeping, all rolled up into tight, impenetrable fortresses. It was unusual for him not to be able to stick his nose into a particularly delicious-looking flower as he traipsed through the forest. The world changed when the sun went to bed. It was a palpable transformation, detectable in the water, taste-able in the air. Everything became strangely subdued in a way, but also so much more alive! Nighttime just had the bizarre atmosphere. Crowflower enjoyed dissecting it with his mind, picking apart all the reasons why night was fantastic and strange.
Alas, tonight was not the night for that. He had to be serious. The entire medical contingency of PineClan was ambling its way to the meeting place by the two-leg bridge. It was the first time that Crowflower had taken Ravenheart with him to a medicine cat meeting. The dynamic was definitely... different. Different was a good word, yeah. Ahh, and it was still so soon after their meeting with FogClan. Yes, Crowflower was looking forward to tonight! So many things were different. He wondered if any of them would show. Would there be a sense of camaraderie simmering beneath the surface when Pine and Fog met? Would it be awkward? Would the other clans be off-put by all four of PineClan's physicians showing up for the meeting? Ooh, the possibilities were simply brilliant! They shone in his mind like stars in the sky.
He walked with a spring in his step. It was such a lovely night. The air was cool, crisp, and clean in his lungs. Every breath was like honey on his tongue; he absolutely reveled in the simplicity of living. It was important to do that every once in a while, he believed, or you could become much too dark. Thankfulness combated so many things! It was a fantastic warrior, armored in joy like a pill-bug or an armadillo. Crowflower did not believe that thankfulness even used a weapon to fight. Its presence alone was sufficient to make its enemies flee. Haha, oh, it made Crowflower burst in half laughing when it was said that he was not a warrior. Perhaps he did not fight with tooth and claw, but he had an arsenal up his pelt that could pierce through flesh and bone straight to the soul. Nobody looked it correctly. That was the problem.
"Isn't it a brilliant night tonight, guys?" |
He fixed Darkpaw, Quailpaw, and Ravenheart with a bright smile. Yes. Yes, it was. If they said any different, he'd teach them the error of their ways, or something intelligent sounding like that. Crowflower's pulse began to flutter in his stomach as they approached the bridge. It was so exciting! If it wouldn't have looked absolutely ridiculous and damaged the reputation of PineClanners for everybody, he would have started bouncing. Bouncing and walking. Yep. Dignity was overrated, but he had to maintain a good appearance for the sake of the clan. Gingerstar said so. "Hello everybody," he called out with a grin. Tonight was going to be fantastic. As he finally arrived, he could see the other medicine cats had already appeared and sighed. He was running late due to a kit in Streamclan thinking that it was fun to play with his herbs and get the whole place a mess. As he shifted his glance between each medicine cat, lowering his head in greeting he then shifted his gaze towards the sky.
"Good night indeed." He mewed, having heard Crowflower's comment about the night. "How are things for you in Pinelcan, Crowflower?" He sat down and neatly wrapped his tail around his fore paws. With any luck, Crowflower would do the talking and he wouldn't have to say much. He was more interested in the fact he still had half a herb storage to clean and that wasn't the worse of it. Looking around, he sighed, again. No Cinderpaw even though he swore that Cinderpaw was following him before they left the camp. Grumbling slightly, he twitched his ears and looked around before shifting all of his attention onto Crowflower. Suppose some gossip would make the night a lot more interesting.

The darkness spread out all around Cinderpaw, but she didn't feel threatened. She looked up to the sky, her eyes bright with subdued happiness. It was odd, even if things didn't look the best, she still kept her head up. If she did have a problem, she just dealt with it and left it at that. But no cat could really do that with Fogclan and Pineclan, the animosity that came evenly between them was too great. She had known that they hadn't particularly fancied one another's company, but going as far as they had now...it all seemed too much. Their hatred had boiled over in to something darker...and those Council members in Fogclan were the scariest.
She twitched her whiskers in frustration. At least Cinderpaw had enough sense to know when to quit holding a grudge, but those two Clans...they were going to stop at nothing to get at each other. Or so it had been after the last news she had heard of a brief quarrel at the border. The border. That's where her Clan's latest trouble had been with Pineclan. A few cats had stolen some prey from the Pineclan side, and then didn't deny that they had to the faces of other warriors, but did deny it to Jaegerstar. It seemed idiotic to lie to that she-cat, because she could see through anyone's bluff.
Cinderpaw looked out in the darkness for Storkflower, he had been just ahead of her a minute ago...she cursed herself under her breath. Leave it to her to go off in a daze for a few heartbeats and lose her mentor. Glancing around, she looked to the trees. New buds were appearing, and that meant new life. She purred, Green-Leaf was a time of new beginnings. At least, that's what the elders and Storkflower had told her. As she watched the newly birthed leaves, she started to drift off again.
If trees could shake off their bad leaves, why couldn't cat just shake off their bad experiences? It would be so much easier than keeping the bad feelings, and letting them grow and grow into bitter hate. It was truly sickening to watch cats like Volepelt and Thrushflower, because they could be great cats if they really wanted to. By changing their attitudes, they could have helped others. But instead they became delusional by their own foolish preachings.
Sighing in defeat, Cinderpaw decided she would just continue to the meeting. She would find him there, and then face whatever punishment for wandering off without telling him. She padded along, humming to herself. Cinderpaw had nothing to fear, as a truce held for medicine cats. But she still felt uneasy as she smelled other cats approaching. Not everyone's moods were the best...Or had they changed since the last news she had heard? Perhaps they had... You mustn't take the world's problems on your shoulders... she scolded herself, scowling.
Reaching the meeting point, she saw the silhouette of Storkflower and at least five other cats. She gulped, how late was she? "Oh great, Storkflower's already in a foul mood from that kit running around, and now I'm late while practically every other cat is already here!" she gave herself a quick cleaning, uneasy about looking unkempt in the presence of so many others. Quickly, she bounded across to meet up with the rest, and halted next to Storkflower.
"I'm sorry for wandering off, it's just I started day-dreaming again and I lost track of time and I--I'm rambling again." she muttered to herself, whipping her tail back and forth out of anxiety, she composed herself and looked down, embarrassed.
Brilliant impression, she thought sarcastically and she looked over to Darkpaw and Ravenheart, whom she hadn't yet had the pleasure of looking like an idiot in front of until tonight.

It was amusing that Volepelt thought sending Reedfoot along would deter her. You little puffed-up fleabrain. Maybe you were a decent cat once, but I didn't care then, and you're just a tool now. It's sad. What DID worry her was the fact that Finchpaw had been held back, and it was obviously Rowanheart's doing. Curse that tom. Still, unless he'd been caught with PineClan scent on him which might even be enough for a public beating... bloody stars, Finchpaw, why do I have to worry about you so much? It was easier when I ignored you except to pump information into you. What she needed to care about now, though, was the impending meeting. Reedfoot herself wasn't much of a problem, but not being able to explain her would be. The expected scents soon filled her nose as she trekked through the cold, dark forest and through the damp grass of MeadowClan territory, never speaking once to the companion she knew was not far behind her. The half-moon provided only a moderate amount of illumination, but her hazel eyes caught the light and she saw the shapes moving at the borders of the territories, which hastened her steps. Surprisingly, all four PineClan medicine cats were there, but this only made her smile. Let's see how my kitsitter enjoys that. I bet they wish they'd sent along Finchpaw now so we're less 'wrongfully outnumbered' or something foolish as I'm sure they'd call it. "Hello, comrades. As you can see, my delightful Clanmate Reedfoot of the Council is joining us tonight. Be sure to make her feel welcome among us, for she is of most esteem and respect in FogClan." The words were said in a faultlessly polite tone, yet the blatant sarcasm was clear. Did I mention she's here to watch what I say? That must be obvious.Everyone was here except the MeadowClanners...Brightnose shrugged. She had other matters on her mind, and if they didn't show their faces soon, she wasn't standing around in the cold having her breath turn to mist to wait. Cinderpaw's ramblings were mildly amusing, and while she may have commented another time, she simply nodded politely to the gray tabby as well as to everyone else. As a small act of rebellion, her nods to the PineClanners were particularly long and deep. They might see it as mocking, but while it was admittedly petty she'd rather be one-upping Reedfoot. Logic, you are a good friend and have served me well. We will always know one another, and you are my most faithful of tools, outstripping even medicine.
But I find emotion is my weapon of choice in this game I have chosen to play. [bg=090806][atrb=width,469,true] [atrb=border,0,true] |

The larger tom followed behind his clanmates, enjoying their company along with the silence that followed. He had been to a few medicine cat meetings before, but it was different to have two more cats come along with them. Ravenheart and Darkpaw were accompanying them this time, and this gave Quailpaw a good reason to take a step back and just listen. Not that he spoke very much when it was just him and Crowflower, but even so, he would speak. He had to admit, he liked spending time with his mentor. He was different than most of the cats in Pineclan, and that was something Quailpaw admired.
Another thing that had always amused the apprentice- his mentor's excitement for the little things. Well, little things in most cats perspective. He could only imagine how Crowflower saw things, and he assumed it was quite a world to live in.
"Isn't it a brilliant night tonight, guys?"
Quailpaw smiled a little and nodded, before they all approached the bridge and the other medicine cats. Storkflower was waiting for them, and Quailpaw nodded to him as they approached. His eyes searched for the Streamclan Medicine Cat apprentice, who he noticed bounded along not too far behind him. For a moment he wondered what had taken her, but it seemed that she would quickly explain.
"I'm sorry for wandering off, it's just I started day-dreaming again and I lost track of time and I--I'm rambling again."

The bulky apprentice smiled, guessing that this apprentice might be able to relate to Crowflower if they took the time to speak. " Its fine. Nice to see you again Cinderpaw. " He mewed casually, always happy to speak with other apprentices like himself. Before any of them could say more, Quailpaw's eyes caught sight of another Medicine Cat- this time it was Fogclan's Brightnose. Before he could mew a friendly greeting, he noticed a shadow of another cat following behind her. But it was a bit to large to be Finchpaw. He returned to his normal stance, except kept himself a bit more prepared than normal. Why would another cat accompany her if it wasn't Finchpaw? A bad feeling stirred within the Pineclan cat's belly, but he pushed it down as he waited for a proper explanation. "Hello, comrades. As you can see, my delightful Clanmate Reedfoot of the Council is joining us tonight. Be sure to make her feel welcome among us, for she is of most esteem and respect in FogClan." His amber eyes followed the Reedfoot, but he made sure to keep himself in check. The last thing he wanted was to seem on bad terms with a member of their council. Things were already bad enough with Pineclan and Fogclan's relationship that unease in their most sacred place would only scar them further. He nodded to the she-cat finally, and then watched Brightnose. By what he could tell, she didn't seem very happy about this surprise. He was sure almost everyone could agree on that one. He turned to look at his mentor, wondering what he would say about this situation. He hoped his night wouldn't be ruined, but he didn't know what reaction Crowflower would even have. With tension's so high already, it was destined to get worse before it got better. Quailpaw could only hope that it wouldn't kill anyone in the process. “speaking color.”[/blockquote]

Darkpaw followed her mentor, Crowflower, and Quailpaw to the bridge her ears pricked to listen for the sounds of the other medicine cats. The streamclan medicine cat arrived and she fixed her sightless gaze on him before fixing her sightless gaze on Cinderpaw who had just arrived behind herself. She opened her mouth to introduce herself, but before she could the Fogclan medicine cat and another cat appeared. "My name is Darkpaw," she meowed in her quiet voice flicking her ears.

[bg=f2f2e5][atrb=width,500,true][atrb=border,0,true]Mottledpaw shook her head in slight frustration as she scurried along to the medicine cat meeting. She never could find Aldernose when she needed him. She stared at the ground beneath her, letting her paws lead her down the path she’d traveled many times before. It felt to her like the majority of those times, she had been alone. It seems Meadowclan doesn’t keep a very close eye on their medicine cat. Mottledpaw had ended up learning more out of experience than actual guidance from her mentor. If anything, she’s learned more from the other clans’ medicine cats rather than her own.
She stopped briefly, putting her nose in the air and taking note of the fresh chill that it contained. Tonight was going to be odd. Something was slightly off, she could tell. She pushed the thought to the back of her mind as she searched for the scent of her comrades. There – there it was. Upset, she realized her clan was the last to have representation, and took off at a brisk clip. She approached with her head lowered, yet eyes lifted to notice the cats standing around, preparing to leave.
Sighing, she figured they would have soon left without her. She flipped over the thought of mentioning Aldernose in her head a few times, deciding against it. If asked, she’d think of a witty yet respectful response. She arrived in front of the others, and slouched on her haunches, a smile appearing from thin air on her bubbly warm face. Peering around the circle of cats, she tilted her head, attempting to break the slight tension she felt bubbling among the group.
Fleetingly she debated asking about the clearly non-medicine Fogclan cat, but the body language around her signaled that it would be a bad idea, so instead she simply flicked her tail, initiating her comment following, “Are we all ready to head out, then? It appears I was the last to arrive.” She chimed with bright eyes and excitement escaping her outwardly calm composure.

Darkpaw
Darkpaw pricked her ears when Mottledpaw raced up and she turned her blind gaze towards the meadow clan medicine cat apprentice. "Well, I'm ready, I don't know about everyone else" she meowed quietly and flicked her ears wondering if everyone else would agree that they were ready. To be honest she was ready to be on her way and wondered what would happen tonight.

Ravenheart was never nervous. Never. Anxiety? Psh, that's not even a word to the never-nervous Ravenheart. ... Never ever.
Except now. Why, of all times, was he nervous now?
Now, of course, was the medicine cat meeting. His first medicine cat meeting. With his apprentice.
Along the way to the meeting place, Ravenheart had realized that it wasn't the meeting that was making him nervous. Nor was it meeting other medicine cats for the first time. It was Darkpaw. He didn't want to look like an idiot in front of her (though that tended to happen anyway). He didn't understand why it bothered him so much, and was still in the process of working it out when he and the other Pineclan medicine cats had arrived at the meeting place. Heck, he was still thinking, even as others arrived as well.
But, fortunately, his mind decided to tune back into the conversation. Brightnose had arrived, with a definitely-not-a-medicine-cat cat. She was explaining who this cat was just as he tuned back in.
"-you can see, my delightful Clanmate Reedfoot of the Council is joining us tonight. Be sure to make her feel welcome among us, for she is of most esteem and respect in FogClan."
Well. This cat was a council member. Fun.
Of course, Ravenheart found his mouth working before his brain did.
"G'day. Pleasure to have you here, Reedfoot." He sounded sickeningly cheerful.
Oddly enough, despite not really having a mean bone in his body, Ravenheart realized that he would enjoy it very much if Reedfoot started squirming because a Pineclan cat talked to her.
Wait.
Strewth.
He'd acted like an idiot again. In front of Darkpaw.

Darkpaw
Darkpaw listened to the other medicines cat impatient to get going, so that they could get to camp sooner. Then she flicked her blind gaze towards her mentor flicking her ears back and forth. She could sense that her mentor was a little embarrest but she really didn't know why.
