He has scars for every day of his life. A single second not gone unforgotten, carved into his body like an angry map by just as angry, just as desperate claws.

The ones on his stomach are to tell him he survived birth, but lost the only connection between him and his mother would ever have; the cord.

The too-many on his flanks and face tell him he should have died more than once; the others were not so lucky.

...He’s missing that; a scar not from the every day of his life, but for a one meeting with death.

It had been a peaceful morning. The night rain had left the ground wet and squishy under many cat’s paws, but with new sources of water came more bugs and with those bugs came the prey that ate them. The sheer abundance of birds nearly made the warriors weep with relief; finally, after such a slow start from leaf-bare, new-leaf was making a comeback.

Yes, a peaceful morning, surely...

“MUD FIGHT!” Shrewstorm yowled above the twitter of sparrows, tossing a glob of mud at the groggy apprentices.

A she-cat screeched as some splattered onto her pelt; Foxpaw spat and spit, ears flat as he wiped a wriggling worm off his forehead.

“You’re going down,” the ginger tom hissed, and then flung himself at the warrior.

There were shouts and gleeful snorting with mud flying everywhere. The mentors hidden safely in their dens, sighed.

Peaceful.
