Name | Loonstep
Gender | tom
Age | 30 moons
Rank | warrior
Clan | Pine
Beliefs| Loonstep doesn't really know what to believe. On one paw, he thinks that cats turning into stars in the sky is pretty and nice to think of, but not really possible. But then, so many cats believe in it. And yeah, it would be nice to be sure of a place to go when you die.
Still, sometimes existence even after dying seems a heavy thing. Shouldn't cats be allowed some rest? Though believers say it's so wonderful in StarClan...so Loonstep is on the edge, neither a hater nor a lover.

Appearance | Loonstep is a black and white tom, with more white than black on him. He's a bulky sort of cat, muscular with broad shoulders and a pentagonal face. His eyes are yellow with a greenish tinge. His nose is pink, and he has short white whiskers.
He has two black patches on his head, one that completely covers one of his ears and another next to it covering part of one of his ears. His average-length tail is all black, and he has a large black splotch on his back. His legs are slightly short, and his paws are broad, but slightly clumsy, almost made more for swimming than walking, leading to his slow, rocking step.
Personality | Loonstep's personality is almost like a picture; you have big blocks of one color, little dots of another, delicate details and things so obvious they're the first thing you see.
He's a neutral cat in general. To those who don't know him well he feels he's just another Clanmate, nothing special about him except for his occasional cynical comments and ingrained sense and practicality. He likes it that way; no need to stand out when you don't need to.
But to his two best friends and brother, he's quite the individual.
He's a lazy but willing kind of cat; in other words, not really good at making himself go out and hunt or patrol, but quite happy with being ordered to join a patrol.
The tom is not very social, but it's not because he dislikes all the cats in his Clan; he'd just rather be thinking and remembering instead. And of course, he's always missing Cranetail, Goosefur, and Duckstripe. Mentally comparing everyone he meets to them makes it difficult for him to form other relationships.
And of course, there's his anger; he used to just let it all loose and make snarky, teasing comments when he was a young prankster, but he's changed. He can "swallow" (as he likes to call it) his furious words most of the time. Surprisingly enough, he finds it easy to maintain a level head in deadly serious situations, but trivial things really get the better of him.
Loonstep is critical and judgmental sometimes without even realizing it; prone to making rash generalizations and supporting stereotypes until he catches himself.
He's a deeply loyal cat, in spite of all his flaws; once you befriend him, he will stand by you, even fight to the death for you- he will stand by his friends in any weather, just because he feels he isn't being a real friend unless he does so.
He chose PineClan for a reason; much as he liked StreamClan, Goosefur was joining that Clan. He would have loved to stay in the same Clan with her, but one thing held him back: jealousy. Fear of his brother's jealousy. And also, deep down, fear that maybe, there was a tiny speck of a chance that he would fall in love with her too if he were around her so much.
Loonstep didn't want to take that chance. He wanted to stay best friends with Goosefur as long as he lived.
Skills | For all his muscles and strength, he's not really a fighting type of cat. He would tell you he doesn't like fighting because he's not good at it, but the truth is he's somewhat of a coward. He enjoys fighting, but only when it's practice fighting; when he knows he won't really get hurt, when cats' lives aren't depending on what he does or doesn't do. Fighting just makes him nervous in every way. Oh, he can do it - but only when he's ordered to.
His hunting is dead average, neither particularly good or bad (he's had to work hard to overcome the challenges his step poses). His tracking - not so good. He's never really had the patience for it. Climbing? Nope. Zilch proficiency on that category.
What Loonstep's real talents lie in is water.
He loves the stuff. Loves it, loves it, loves it.
He can fish like nobody's business - give him a day and at the very least he'll have caught three of the things. He loves running in water, splashing cats, jumping in the river, swimming - you name it. Like the bird of his name, his very element is water. He almost feels awkward on land by comparison, because of all the things he can't do in it.
History |Loonstep's birth was a joke in ForestClan for moons, what with he and his brother being born only a few minutes before Duckstripe and Goosefur and the medicine cat mixing them up. But it was symbol of something far more profound, something that linked the four like they all actually were siblings.
They did almost everything together, and "almost everything" was usually a prank or plot of some sort, usually put together by Cranekit and Duck-kit. Loonkit just went along with the ideas because they seemed fun (he didn't really care if they were bold or whatnot), and of course Goosekit refused to be left out.
Life was good, until...the ultimate prank.
They came up with the idea of spying on an enemy Clan. Loonkit, Duck-kit, and Cranekit would sneak out of camp to the borders; Goosekit would stay behind to distract their parents.
What could go wrong? Everything.
Goosekit failed at her job, and the three others were driven up a tree by an enemy patrol. As punishment their kithood was prolonged by two moons. It didn't affect them much; although they tried a little harder to behave. Well, Loonkit did.
However, the moon they became apprentices everything changed.
The Clan split, and cats pledged their loyalty to one side or another. Duckpaw believed that a journey for whatever reason would be awesome, so naturally the other three believed she was right. Loonpaw was scared, but if his friends were going, he wouldn't stay behind for the world.
So the four left.
He went on the journey, and trained to become a warrior - hard and demanding as it was, terrifying as the cats around him dying were. Friends, relations - none were spared by the world around him. But eventually he received his warrior name - Loonstep, for his rocking, almost awkward step that was so like a loon's. He felt uncomfortable on land compared with being in water, just like them.
And then something even more incredible happened. Goosefur, his best friend Goosefur, fell in love with Cranetail. His brother Cranetail. He remembered Goosefur confessing it to him and her sister, and him being shocked. Who would fall in love with Cranetail, of all cats? It was like...he didn't know.
There was no precedent he could think of to describe it. Just sheer disbelief, sadness, and even a little anger and a tiny amount of jealousy. Disbelief..well, that was obvious, it needed no explanation. Not to himself, anyway. Sad that things would never be the same with the foursome - not after this. Even if Goosefur didn't love Cranetail anymore after some time, there would always be a certain awkwardness between them. Angry at Goosefur a little - why? Why had she done this to them? He knew he shouldn't be; it wasn't really her fault. He was ashamed that he should be angry at her when things were hard enough already. And jealous of Cranetail for winning such love from her.
If he were perfectly honest, he would've expected her to fall in love with him instead. Not that that was preferable, oh no. The best thing would be if she'd fallen in love with another cat entirely. Loonstep began to feel that love wasn't for him - there was too much trouble in it.
Still, they were all friends, though Goosefur was more distant now - always off working with the kits and mothers, away from the white tom. Loonstep just shook his head and went on.
And one day, they found it. Their new home.
Oddly enough, they all separated into different Clans.
Goosefur to StreamClan, Duckstripe to MeadowClan, his brother to FogClan, and him to PineClan.
Loonstep was sad about this, but had his own reasons for choosing PineClan. He didn't want to go with his brother because he feared FogClanners would judge him for not believing fully in StarClan. Going with Duckstripe would've been fun, but...he almost felt like it was unfair for him to see so much of her when neither his brother or her sister did. He feared the others' jealousy, so with only PineClan left to turn to, there he went.
He's found it all right in his new Clan, but it's getting harder and harder to ignore his developing feelings for Goosefur. He's also still somewhat traumatized over the death of Nightstream, a FogClanner who was killed by a fox right before his eyes.
