Name | Angel Sableheart

Age | 79 moons
Rank | Elder
Clan | Pineclan
Beliefs|
Sableheart thinks Starclan is not as ridiculous as her fellow Pineclanners make it out to be. While she does not believe that these cats have any powers, she has always believed in an afterlife. What’s so wrong with thinking there is someone watching over you? Absolutely nothing. And even though she doesn’t think Starclan is super powerful, she does believe in some sort of higher power, be it a man in the sky, or destiny. Sableheart just knows that she feels like she’s never alone, like someone is walking with her down her path and clearing the undergrowth away for her.
She believes that having a little bit of faith in the impossible can go a long way and that trust is equally important. Sableheart thinks that cats that have neither faith nor trust miss everyday miracles.

Appearance |
Sableheart is a black cat, form her nose to the tip of her tail. She has no markings, not a spot of white—even her claws are black. But her black fur is long and smooth, as soft as silk. She takes great care to keep it this way, always grooming and grooming her fur, while also paying attention to her long whiskers. Most of time, because of her constant care, Sableheart looks younger than she is, and is definitely one of the luckier elders out there health-wise. She is going deaf in her right ear though, but it’s better than having no ears.
Her eyes are round and a light, pastel green, like the color of a spring day. They are almost always smiling and it’s hard to not smile back when she looks at you with them. They take up most of her narrow face, which consists of a short muzzle, a black, twitching nose, and a set of thin ears on the top of her head.
Her body is surprisingly small, though one would think her long fur would make her appear large. She is short, with skinny legs and is actually very well-fed for a wild cat. She’s not skinny, at least. Her body would be good for hiding in tight spaces, such as a log, or in a bush, but her fur usually snags on branches and prevents that from happening.
Personality |
Sableheart is that sweet little lady down the street who bakes cookies for the kids and talks to them about all their problems. Of course, instead of cookies, she has fat, juicy mice, and she only lives across the camp clearing.
She loves sharing. Whether she’s sharing prey, tongues, stories, advice, Sableheart is generous in all areas. She can have a cat glued to the elders den for quite a while as she goes on with one of her stories, most likely a fond memory from back in the day. Often, though, she makes up random stories that might apply to a cat’s life. So, if a cat is having trouble with its hunting, she’ll make up a story to give the cat a boost of confidence, and she always starts with ‘once upon a time’ and ends with ‘they lived happily ever after.’ Because, even the saddest of stories will end happy when told by Sableheart, because she does not believe in sad endings. She is optimistic and upbeat, no matter what the situation.
And while she’d rather be soft and caring toward her fellow clanmates and their issues, she can be quite strict sometimes. If she thinks that cat is being a mousebrain, she’ll tell them they are and why, and she’ll usher them out of a den with a ‘I mean business’ look. Though of course, she’ll always call after them with an affectionate “Good luck!” no matter what. She can’t help herself, after all. She thinks of everyone in Pineclan as her children.
She’s quite persistent too. It takes a lot to get Sableheart to give up, and usually she fights you every step of the way. And with her perseverance, comes patience. She can wait a long time for practically anything and she’ll never utter a complaint.
Because of her experiences as a mother, she is protective of her family—and now, her family is Pineclan. She can be surprisingly vicious, if she sees any cat bullying one of her babies. She’ll rush on over and give that other cat a firm talking to, before she drags her clanmate away. She’s never attacked anyone physically, but if push comes to shove and a battle breaks out, she won’t hesitate to defend her loved ones. It is her love that gives her that courage.
She loves to call everyone by little pet names, though only the sweet cliché ones, including darling, dear and baby. Felix is often called these, hardly ever his warrior name, and Sableheart embarrass him by calling him “Tiger” in a seductive coo. “Sweetpea” and “Handsome” are also some of the popular choices for her dear mate. And when a cat visits her, they should always come hungry, because she won’t let anyone leave without eating something first.
Skills |
Because she is an elder, Sableheart’s senses are dull and her body is beginning to break down. She can still hunt decently, though it’s gotten to the point that she chases away the prey more often than not. She could definitely get beaten by an apprentice in a fight, but her determination to protect the ones she loves keeps her claws skilled enough to land a good blow or two.
Her real talent, however, is finding the good in everything. Sableheart can find the silver lining no matter how dark the skies are.
History |
Sableheart was originally a kittypet named Angel. She was just a kitten when she was given to a little girl named Sarah, when Sarah was only six years old. The two were instantly best friends and Angel loved Sarah with all her heart. She slept in the same room with her, she curled up on Sarah’s lap whenever they watched TV, and Angel would even play hide-n-seek. Life was, for quite a while, perfect.
Until Sarah turned eight and was diagnosed with leukemia.
Everything changed. Angel was confused and distraught as she watched her lively little girl begin to lose hair and throw up. She didn’t understand why she got so cold and why she seemed so frail. The word ‘cancer’ was very foreign to Angel, but she soon associated it with everything bad and wrong in life. And while Angel was very worried about her human, she couldn’t help but admire Sarah. Because every time Sarah had to go to the hospital, she had a brave smile on her face. When she came back, she had enough energy to pick up Angel, twirl her around, and give her a big hug. Sarah continued to try and laugh, keep up with school work, and talk with friends. And Angel had never been so proud. Sarah often whispered to Angel how much she loved her, and thanked her for the strength that she gave her—but Angel felt that she did not give Sarah strength; that Sarah gave her strength and gave strength to everyone around her. And she only hoped, with all her heart, that Sarah could get better.
However, the cancer got worse, and before Sarah could celebrate her ninth birthday, her parents took Angel away from Sarah. The doctors’ had told Sarah’s parents that having an animal in the house was too dangerous in Sarah’s weakening condition, as they could bring in dirt and disease. So, one night, before Angel even knew what was happening, she was stuffed into a kennel, put in a car and brought to an unfamiliar house, where she was left. Though the parents had left her with a kind lady, with two other cats for company, Angel was miserable. She could only think of Sarah and how she needed to make sure her favorite human was okay. There was only one option: Break out and find Sarah.
Angel tried everything and as her escape attempts became more elaborate, a certain cat took notice of her: Felix. He was a rowdy tom himself, fond of climbing things, and soon Angel noticed that Felix began watching her as she planned and plotted. She went about one month ignoring him before it got to be too much.
“Can I help you?” She finally snapped at him, frustrated and fed-up with all her failures.
“Nope. But I think I can help you,” he answered back.
Thus, the partnership began. Felix, it turned out, had been rescued from a pound, though he had never wanted to be ‘rescued’ in the first place. He was a street cat, used to hunting and wandering around. Now, with both cats working together, the escape they both craved became more attainable.
The two cats spent a great deal of time together, working out just how they were to distract their human and get a window or door open. It took them several attempts, two months, and a lot of bumps and bruises, but they managed to break free. Of course, by the time that happened, a bond had formed between the two and Angel was happy to hear that Felix was going to help her find Sarah. With his help, she learned how to hunt (sort of) and defend herself (sort of), though she relied heavily on Felix for both of these things.
The moons went on, and there was no luck finding Sarah. After at least a year of searching, Felix stopped Angel and the pair had their first big fight. Felix felt that the search had become pointless, that they had nothing to go on, and that Angel was in denial. Angel disagreed, of course.
“I’m never giving up! Sarah could need me, or she could not, but I at least need to know if she is okay!”
“You’re wasting moons of your life on this, Angel! Just think….think of all that…”
“What, Felix? Because there is nothing in this life that I want more than to see Sarah again. I am missing nothing!”
“But what of kits? What of a life…with a mate? Angel, I know that Sarah was your family—is your family—but… if you let yourself let her go, we could have our own family too. Angel, I love you.”
This confession from Felix changed everything. Even if Angel wanted to, she could not deny that she loved the tom and that she wanted to be with him. So, Angel reluctantly let go of her old life and embraced her new one, having four healthy kits just a few months later. And though Angel had given up on finding Sarah, she decided that she wanted to teach her kits the lessons that Sarah had taught her, in order to keep Sarah alive within her. So she taught her kits to always be brave, to always tackle challenges head on, and to find the good in everything. Her first litter grew up fast and moved away, of course, but it was not long before Angel has another litter of kits to keep her occupied—a litter of three. However, this litter was not as lucky and healthy as the first, and all three succumbed to sickness. For the first time in her entire life, Angel felt bitter and utterly hopeless. She pulled away from Felix and mourned the lives of their kits selfishly, though she knew, deep down, he was just as hurt. With no more kits on the way though, the pair resumed their traveling.
Angel and Felix were passing through a two-leg neighborhood one day when Angel’s life changed forever. Still depressed and angry, Angel spotted a girl, playing with a dog in her front yard. The girl had extremely short blonde hair, and she was skinny, but otherwise, happy. Her smile was what stirred Angel’s memory and caused her to move closer to investigate. As she got closer, the dog grew excited and barked, catching the girl’s attention.
The girl smiled and gasped excitedly, “Hey! You look exactly like a cat I used to have!”
It was Sarah.
It was Sarah.
All the hurt that Angel had been feeling lifted as she realized that she had found her little girl, and her little girl was okay. She wasn’t so little anymore—in fact, she was a teenager. But she was alive. And surprisingly, Angel knew that it was enough to just know, she did not have to return to Sarah. And she didn’t want to. She had let go of her old life a long time ago, and now, Sarah did not even need her. But Felix did.
So Angel left her little girl and returned to her mate, her old self, though stronger than ever before.
Angel and Felix left the neighborhood and it was not long before their wandering brought them to a massive group of cats. Intrigued, Angel and Felix joined the group of cats and got to know all about their story and where they were going. When the ‘clans’ got there, they split up, and Felix came to Angel and requested that they join Pineclan.
“We won’t have to deal with this ‘Starclan’ stuff—those are they’re ancestors, not ours,” said Felix. “And I like the leader. She has spunk.”
Angel did not know much about the clans, and though she was fonder of Streamclan, she felt an urge to give back to her mate, since he had put up with her while she had looked for Sarah, and when she had fallen into her depression. So Angel tentatively joined Pineclan, though she definitely had second thoughts, and she was given the name Sableheart, for her fur and her compassion.
Now, Sableheart is very happy in Pineclan and is grateful that her mate picked this clan, and that she trusted that judgment. She loves participating in the clan’s decisions, and sharing all the things she has learned in her life. Because spreading the message of Sarah’s strength, and now her own, is a dream come true. She wouldn't have her life any other way.
