RELIGION IN FOF CANON
In most ways, FoF is a typical warriors roleplay site. It is centred around 4 clans, the traditional ceremonies and the same elements of drama most warriors roleplay uses. However, one element which fundamentally sets FoF apart (ignoring the traditional names) is the way it uses religion.
On most warrior websites, the religion, much like the books, is set. Typically, this means that Starclan and the Dark Forest (and the tribe equivalents) definitely exist, and this might be the source of conflict, character creation and plots. Prophecies definitely come from Starclan, fate is a definite possibility and it is possible to play a character with gifts from the starry ancestors.
However, on FoF, this is not the case. Does Starclan exist? We don't know. You tell us. Or rather, your cat should, because on FoF, whether Starclan exists is entirely up to you. We are very careful never to give any proof that dictates either way. Prophecies, should they be given (which, strangely, tends to be quite rare) could be down to either divine intervention or mental instability. Just like in real life, no one knows whether Starclan exists and no one will ever know.
So how does this effect roleplay? Well, for one, once your cat is dead, they are dead. That is it. It is not possible to roleplay cats who are in Starclan on FoF. As a result, cats will not be allowed to have powers or any Starclan given gift (unless this gift is something that could be explained away by a cynic or a result of a delusion).
DARN. You say. Then what in heaven's name is there to roleplay about?
In return, you find yourself with a setting that is rich in conflict for every cats. Debates between believers and non-believers cause trouble daily, and you can find yourself questioning the morality of what each and every cat is doing. Is a cat right to act against the code, if it follows the will of Starclan? What about the opposite?
Who knows?
As Starclan may or may not exist, there is no certainty. Every cat must battle through life and difficulty with no promise of reward (or punishment) in the end. This, we have found, makes for intriguing roleplay.
Furthermore, our plots will always be realistic and anchored in the realism of the trials the cats face every day. Political struggles, religious extremism, moral choices... the possibilities are endless!
So, if you're after Dark Forest cats and plots centred on the 'chosen one(s)' you're better off somewhere else, but if you fancy trying something different, where every cat matters and has a role to play, you've come to the right place :D Don't be daunted, give it a shot! You might just surprise yourself.
