RATING YOUR ROLEPLAY BOARDS
Here on FoF, the subject matter roleplayed can vary from board to board. The vast majority of boards are suitable for every person, even those with a sensitive disposition. However, we do have some older members here, and sometimes a board of a more mature nature may pop up. To protect innocent eyes, it is incredibly important for you, the member, to know what level you can take your rp to and, if you take it there, how to notify others that your board contains sensitive material.
THE SYSTEM
With the move to v2, the staff have decided to move onto a new rating system. In the past, we have used the MPAA movie ratings (PG, PG 13, R-rated) as an indication of a board's level of maturity. However, that system is flawed, giving no clear outline as to what each rating allows, which makes it difficult to use as a clear rating system. Plus, MPAA ratings are not worldwide and are mostly used in America, meaning anyone from different cultures (Brits included!) may not understand what each rating pertains to. Considering our main admin is English, this is probably not the best system to employ!
Here on FoF, we use a modified version of 'The RPG Rating System'. This system was originally created for One x One roleplayers as a way of advertising themselves more effectively. It aimed to give anyone looking for an rper a guideline as to how far the roleplayer would go in the areas of Language, Sexual content and Violence. This is done by assigning a figure (the higher it is, the more severe the content is allowed to be) to each of these areas, using the numbers 1-3.
The format for this is L-S-V-, with numbers in the place of the dashes, e.g. L3S1V2.
What do the numbers stand for? (Taken from the official website with thanks)
The number from 0 to 3 indicating how much of that content can be expected from none (0) to unlimited possibilities (3).
Language 0: No objectionable or mature language permitted. Language 1: Infrequent, mild swearing is permitted. Language 2: Swearing is generally permitted. However, the language cannot be used to severely abuse. Language 3: Objectionable and mature language is permitted.
Sexual Content 0: No sexual content, innuendo or references permitted. Sexual Content 1: Mild sexual innuendo and references permitted. No explicit representations or references to genitalia or sex acts. Sexual Content 2: Sexual content is permitted. References and writing about genitalia and sex acts are permitted, but explicit detail is not. Fade to black, or 'mature' tagging are recommended. Sexual content 3: Sexual content described in detail is permitted.
Violence 0: No violence permitted. Violence 1: Mild violence is permitted. Explicit descriptions of gore is not allowed. Violence 2: Graphic is permitted. Explicit description or in-game narration of violence is allowed. Violence 3: Extreme violence is permitted.
So, let's give an example.
You have a topic where your character swears infrequently, does not act sexually in any way but he graphically rips a character's intestines out. This board would earn the rating L1S0V3. L is language, and it is at level 1 because the board is not particularly full of swears. S is sexual content, and is at level 0 because there is not any of it. V is at level 3 as the content for violence is incredibly graphic. Simple, eh?
HOW FAR CAN I GO ON FOF?
Although we have this system, the only allow most of these things to a point upon the roleplay boards. This is because we want to keep the site as friendly and mostly suitable for those of all ages.
FoF's TOP rating possibilities- Language: 0 Sexual content: 1 Violence: 2
Language: When it comes to bad language, human swearing is not allowed on FoF in anywhere but the Profanity OOC board. Swearing should not occur in your post, and if it does, the staff will make you change it. We have plenty of imaginative warrior-verse alternatives, and we encourage you to make up your own ;P. Sexual Content: We will allow innuendo and playful comments, however there should be no mention of intimate areas, talk of heat, etc. Talk of the actual act is absolutely prohibited. If you really need to do that stuff, take it off the boards. Violence: We are a lot more leinient when it comes to violence. It makes sense, since this is a Warrior cats forum and that is a naturally violent world. However, please ensure you're not excessively graphic, as there truly is no need for it.
IN PRACTICE
At FoF, instead of using it as a guideline as to how far you will go, we will be using it on board topics to indicate how much of each thing is inside.
To do this, if your board becomes questionable in content, we will require you to place an rpg rating in your board's title as an indication to others of what the board contains. For example:
[L0S0V2][ThrushxGinger] Vicious dancing [L0S1V1] MINE! [FinchxRowanxFrost]
The rating should go at the front of the board just in case the topic is in the 'Last viewed' area of the board and the rating is cut off.
It may also be sensible to mark which posts are sensitive in OOC when you get to them. E.g ((This post contains excessive violence and general ickness.)) *BODY OF THE POST*
If a rating of a board should change during the course of the rp, it is your responsibility to change the title to fit the rating.
If you have any questions about the system or would like an admin to rate your content, feel free to PM them and they will help you out as best they can
