Happy Birthday FoF!

Happy Fofday everyone! Please know that all current members will be given 5 Karma in the next few days in celebration, when Rolo can get round to manually giving them to each individual person! Dear Forest of Fate-rs, Good cripes... who woulda guessed this site would live to see it's 3rd birthday? I certainly didn't. In fact, I pretty much went on record saying that the site would last perhaps, if we were lucky, a few months. But, of course, the site then did everything in it's power to prove me wrong. Older FoFers will recall early FoF, a breakout site in a sea of similar ones. I'm not bigging the site up here in any way, but it was so very fundamentally different to any other warriors site I'd ever seen. It was focused on realism, inclusiveness and rules that AIDED rather than hindered creativity (namely, traditionalism (which forced people to think of unique characters, not names) and the questionable existence of Starclan (which forced plots to focus on character drama and politics rather than powers)). This, I believe, helped it grow into a constructive and naturally literate site while remaining accepting anyone who popped their head in. The site took on a life of it's own. It seemed to grow rapidly outside of what all the staff did, with a brilliant and quite sizeable community making the site breathe. At the time the site was born, I was just a member. I very loudly stated I never had any wish to be staff. YEAH. Things went exactly as planned... But yeah. Crow conspired against me, and... well, I'm glad he did. I'm still not, as I say repeatedly, the best staff member in the world, but I have so enjoyed doing it. As the site grew, I was able to help nurture something I loved, while enjoying the company of people who all became very close friends. And best of all, the site grew into such a brilliant place to roleplay, I fear that I'll never be able to join another one because you've all made my standards so high! Sure, it's not always been easy. We survived the loss of our head admin and the move to v2. There have been people hurt and mistakes made along the way, but hell, we've endured. We may not be as big as we once were, but we're still an awesome, stable community. So, this is a love letter to all of you, the FoFers, for giving the site life for 1095 days. Every. Single. One. Of. You. The ones who came and didn't stay. The ones who stayed, but have now moved on. The ones who are current but may not have been around for too long. And the ones who have always been here, until this current day. You're all amazing, and I've loved meeting you all. I wish I could give out special mentions, but there are too many and I fear I'd forget some. Besides, every member is important, no matter what their history (looking at you, Cloudie ;P) or their time on the site. However, I do think it is right to honour those staff who worked so hard for us in the early days, if only by mentioning their names. Kyo, Poizuun, Crow, Whiskers, Hardy, Slug. Thankyou all for your awesome contributions to the site, and for giving me something to work with and build on when I took over running it Here's to another year! So, I thought I'd spice things up a bit, and the following conversation ensued. Pyro: I dunno. I just love FoF. I love the people, the characters, the roleplays...I'm proud to serve as one of its admins. Rolo: I can use that. Pyro: omg I love it. <3333 Rolo: Or you can imagine that I'm about to close FoF down because I see nothing going for it and passionately plea for it to remain Rolo: MAKE YOUR CASE, INFIDELLLLLLLLL Rolo: Or I can use that other one. Pyro: YOU FIEND. ||||8< Rolo: Go on. FOF is HORRIBLE. Pyro: Pffft. Pretty sure FoF blazes with the light of a thousand suns. Pretty sure it PISSES excellence. |8 Rolo: Oh really? Well they must be COLD suns. And it must be horrendously dehydrated, have you seen how yellow it's pee is? Pyro: That's because it's gold. Liquid roleplaying gold. Rolo: ORLY?! But the members are bad, huh? D< So that counts for nothing. Pyro: The members are friggin' legit. Legit awesome that is. Pyro: They're kind, funny, and absolutely crazy in all the right ways. Rolo: FFF well, I suppose you're right D: But the CHARACTERS. Let us not speak of those sparkly mary suuueeeeeeees >.> Pyro: You must have the wrong FoF. All its characters are well-rounded, full of depth, and unique beyond belief. We've had religious zealots, cannibals, cowboys, ex-cons, ex-fighters, strong leaders, weak leaders...the only thing we HAVEN'T had is a mary-sue. Rolo: ... Agh >.> I'm running out of things to criticise. Pyro: That's because there's nothing you CAN criticize. c: So, slightly-mean Rolo conceded defeat and agreed that FoF was awesome. Im so glad to be a part of the FoF community ^ o ^ you guys all do a wonderful job- and i applaud you guys for staying together so long! Theres not many sites that can get through all of what you have, im sure of it.
Lets hope to the next year being just as awesome :3

can i just say
even though i don't roleplay anymore, you guys will forever have the biggest piece of my heart. i remember when we were still just a cluster of roleplayers on neopets with similar ideas and opinions. and now... well, look what this has become. it's incredible. every single person on this site is absolutely amazing. you guys have always been there for me, and i love all of you.

First of all, I'm loving the Raimi reference, Pyro. FTW. <3

Second of all, I'm honored to be a part of such a wonderful community here. Truly, this is the best thing I've ever had the pleasure to be involved in. Fof is just so full of life and love. It's wonderful. We have come through so much together, and nothing has weakened the bonds that hold us to one another. When I look at some other sites and see that they're on v7 after a year, it only makes me more proud to be a Foffer. Both the talent and potential here are marvelous, and I so enjoy seeing myself and my friends grow through our involvement with this site.

When one takes the time to invest in Fof, I don't think that anybody can help being changed. I've grown so much more confident on here, and I've built friendships to last a lifetime. I love you all very dearly.
