It was mentioned upon V2’s launch, and now it’s finally here: the staff auditions. These have no set deadline, and will close only when we have found enough people to fill the much needed spots in the Staff Team. At present, we are in need of mods, and ,more importantly, bio mods. Both positions have opportunities for advancement, but involve two different sets of tasks, so please bear that in mind when thinking about which position you’d like to go for. As always, we will select people for jobs best suited to their skills. The FoF staff realise that most of you will not be trained or will not have much experience of running a site. However, we will not be looking for fully formed staff members, but the spark of potential within each member. Therefore, applications are open to anyone, regardless of the experience they have. If you have the skills, we may have a place for you on the staff. MODS-Clean up inactive threads -Write important threads - Manage information threads (I.e plot threads, clan timelines. You will be allocated ones suited to your skills). - Creating and running your own plots, or major clan plots, with the help of an admin. -Monitor threads to make sure the rules are being obeyed at all times -Monitor the c-box to make sure the rules are being obeyed at all times -Check and accept bios. -Help in behind-the-scenes decision making. -Resolve conflicts - Be a positive presence on the site and be around to help and interact with members. This position is best suited to people with organizational skills and a sharp eye. The ability to resolve conflicts or get them off the c-box in a quick manner is a must, though you may not necessarily have to use it very often. Your manner should always be friendly and professional, and you should attempt to interact with members regularly. A lot of your job will be to do with people relation.BIO-MODS-Intially, check, but not accept, bios -If you prove yourself a solid bio-critter, you will be given the power to accept bios. -Help in behind-the-scenes decision making, This position is best suited to people who are familiar with what the staff here at FoF look for in a bio. You should be able to give constructive crits tailored to a person‘s age and ability, as well as identify inconsistencies in a personality, history, and appearance. It is a specialist job, requiring you to do one single job, and whether you do any more tasks will be based on your skills. ***Bio Mod applicants will need to pm crits of the two sample bios Foxclaw and Leafpaw to Pyro. To do this, you should definitely take a good look at the Bio Moderation Guide |

Name: Ember Time Zone: Pacific Preferred Position: Either. Qualifications: I can make graphics, but I am not the best coder. I would definitely need some training with that. I usually try to be as helpful, calm, and friendly as I can be. You would know way more about that. I haven't ever tried bio checking so I wouldn't know about that. I guess I am friendly? I am pretty involved with FOF and I know basically all the rules. I am pretty good with time lines and know all about ForestClan and the different plots. Why you want the position: I want the position because I love FOF and I would like to be a bigger part of it. I want offer my help in any way possible. Why you think you‘re right for the position: I don't know...you would know more about that than me. I don't want to sound conceited by saying I'm friendly or something...which I guess I am. I don't know lol

Name I've gone by Poi on the internet for as long as I can remember. Time Zone Uhm.... Yeah give me a sec to look that up. GMT -6 (central) Preferred Position Seeing as I am not confident with my skills of.... well, everything, I'm applying for bio-mod Qualifications As far as this section goes, I'm not so sure I'd be more fit than any other member. I don't have much in the terms of qualifications, but here's what I've pulled together. I like to think I'm friendly and thoughtful enough to most people. And along with that, I'm open. I'm likely to give you my opinion if you ask for it. If you want to know what I truly think about your bio, and I think it looks like crap, I'm likely to say it has room for improvement, and point out things to expand. But if you're looking for actual qualifications and experience, not just personality, I have a few. I often times help to host pages and such on my guilds on neo. On occasion I have found myself in the council position, and have done fairly well. Aside from that form of leadership, I remain a normal member and rarely have to use any authority. Also, I'm not sure it pertains to bio-mods, but I have quite a bit of graphic experience. I make layouts for almost all of my guilds, and each one seems to get better. If you request, I may be able to dig up a few examples. Why you want the position Although I did not become a member of FoF until v2, I watched it grow on v1. I might have joined on v1, but something about forums has always steered me away. But seeing v2 and poking around a bit more, and knowing the members has drawn me in. I think being a bio-mod would drop me right into the midst of things, I'd get to know members as well as characters. And on the plus side, I've always enjoyed reading bios. Why you think you‘re right for the position I find myself critiquing small things about bios in my head. I know I don't know all aspects, but I'm a fast learner. If I know what to look for, I think I could spot it. I love reading bios and imagining the cat in my head, and although I may not have all of the needed skills at the moment, I would pick them up.

Name: Glowy
Time Zone: Alaska. Because I'm cool like that. |D
Preferred Position: Either :3
Qualifications: Well, I'm friendly, and whenever anybody wants help I do try my best to provide whatever it is that they need. I have a very good idea of what makes a good bio, and I can give advice in a gentle, instructive way. When I have a task I like to focus only on that and go as in-depth as possible. As for other staff member skills, I'm absolute rubbish at graphics (I don't know if I'd be able to use the tools even if I had them, haha), the most coding I can do is formatting a post on here, but I do get along well with everybody on the staff team at the moment and have good relationships with the members I know well. Also, people whose opinions I respect very much have told me that I'm one of the best role players on the site, so the work I do is of good quality and can be attested to. I HAS REFERENCES. |D Also, in real life, people always want me to edit their stuff. My friends come to me with stories and poems, and I'm always the one people flock to when it comes time to edit papers in class.
Past experience: When I was a member of a role-playing guild on neopets (one that actually was half decent), I was actually part of the bio committee. I had a special page listing all the things found in a good bio, and I, along with a few other people, would read over bios and tell people what needed to be improved. This gave me experience not only in determining what makes a good bio, but in relating to members as a kind of staff member.
Why you want the position: To be perfectly honest, I've wanted to be a staff member for the longest time. The last time there were staff auditions, though, I was too insecure with myself to apply, so I let the opportunity pass by, much to my shame. But I have grown a lot since then and I feel like a spot as a staff member will be good for me.
I just feel like it's high time I contributed something to Fof other than my characters, posts, and whatever else it is that I've given. It's always so hard to tell what impact you've left, you know?
As for being a bio-mod, there's something special about seeing the refinement take place in the site's characters. You get to see the raw materials, you get to see the first wood chips fly, the first nails hammered into place, see the first ties that bind together the finished product. Things are more beautiful when you get to see how they begin. And I like to be involved in beautiful things.
Why you think you‘re right for the position: I enjoy helping people develop their characters. Sometimes I find myself trying to help people even on the cbox, asking them questions, asking them to explain to me a certain aspect of their character. I know that always helps me to develop my characters.
As for being a moderator, pretty much all I can say for myself is that I respond to directions well. If something needs to be done, I'll do it and I won't complain about it. This, along with the things I've listed previously, makes me think I could handle being a moderator and would be well suited for it.

Name: Soliel. I don't have any nicknames >.>
Time Zone:Pacific
Preferred Position: Either one.
Qualifications: Hmm. I haven't exactly had much of any experience staffing a serious site like this. I worked briefly with wetpaint/webs before deciding they were just consistently mediocre.. I do think that I'm a solid fiction writer (still can't hold a candle to THIS awesomeness...) and I know what makes a good bio. So I am excited to see how this site runs behind the curtains, and how I can at least start to get involved. I am very friendly to everyone and never get into flame-wars like some immature mods I've seen, and I keep a very level head all the time. I have absolutely ZERO experience with graphical design and formatting, but I tend to learn quickly so anything still might happen. On the opposite end, I can figure out most organizational schemes very quickly and I am very apt at maintenance and, well, organizing.
As far as real 'qualification' goes, I run fairly short. My experience so far has been solely real-world (that's actually fairly significant but doesn't apply to interwebz forums) But I make up for it (or at least I think I do) in personality and skill in organization and writing.
Past experience: As I said earlier, the only experience I've had as staff was on wetpaint sites-- and not even major ones at that. I established myself as a bio wizard and organizational genie, but granted I never had to work with anything of real complexity. I also understand that this whole application is a lot coming from a person with a net... 3 real posts on this site at all. Seeing as that I have so little tangible experience, I hope that I can impress! Why you want the position: I have a case for both roles:
I love bios. They are pretty much all of what I do, between reading others, critiquing them, writing them even. It would certainly make me familiar with pretty much everyone, and I like the way that it tests my mind, to not only find what's wrong but how I can help fix it-- and that's something that I carry over into everyday life. I consider myself a helpful person, maybe a little too forthright (that's something I need to work on...) but I certainly place bios on the tops of my list on any RP site. And what's more- I love being critiqued. To find my mistakes and how I can improve.
For the /mod/ position:
I don't consider myself a humanitarian at all. However, I am a very kind and open person, and I take pride in my skills with people and with organizing. I listen to everybody and don't make any kind of rash decision. I am an arbiter among my friends and I try to always keep a level head. It seems like if there was any time to apply it would be now, so here I go.
Why you think you‘re right for the position: I don't have any heart-warming story about my past with this site, or any testimonial to my skills in reality as opposed to what I say. BUT I have seen sites go up, sites that I was a large part of. It is an incredibly rewarding experience, more so than any that I could get merely as a part of the whole. I like to think of it like D&D, for those familiar. It is rewarding for both the player AND the DM, but in totally different ways. The player gets the satisfaction of the adventures thrown his way and his relationship to it in a very close and personal way, and satisfaction from seeing himself- and his character- grow. But the DM gets the pleasure of seeing all his hard work planning pay off, and any leader gets a thrill when the people around him work together. This site looks like such a stellar, close-knit group that I can imagine it is a gift to the admins. So do I think I'm qualified to do the job? Yes. But so is everyone else. There's no way for me to stand out amongst all the other members who are as equally generous and open-minded, as good of writers and critiquers.
In bios, I know what to look for, and how it can improve. It is its own satisfaction. I hope I have the necessary skills to back that statement up.
As a mod, only example can truly prove whether or not I'm ready- but the example you guys provide is ample for emulation.
-Soliel
P.S: I don't know what kind of timeline you all want for the bios, but tomorrow night is the earliest I can get them to you.

Post by Mockingbird on Jul 12, 2011 13:29:34 GMT -10
Name: Mockingbird, Risk, Bird, Mocky Time Zone: US Central Preferred Position: Mod Qualifications: I have previously moderated and/or run several sites in the past, most of which had very successful and active communities. I am well-spoken (which translates into my informational posts quite well) and kind, though I have no problem being the bad guy to break up an argument anywhere on the site. That's not to say I'll be mean to you, but firm. I have a good hand for graphics and an eye for detail, which also helps me with my editing (I was always the person people went to in class to proofread essays =P). I am helpful, a creative problem solver, and always eager to answer questions and be helpful. Oh, and I have no life, so I'm pretty actively online. Past experience: A looooooong time ago on a small rp site of which the name escapes me - 6 months More recently a steampunk site - 1 year Also other sites off and on for about four years. I'd get the job handed to me for one reason or another and then the admin would disappear, thus, dead site.
Why you want the position: I'd like to be a part of helping the site to grow further, and I'd also like to be able to help current and future members more effectively and efficiently. Not only that, but it gives me a reason to stay active and I could use the friendly community. Why you think you‘re right for the position: I have strong people and problem solving skills, and I'm also very creative when it comes to fixing things or improving them. I'm not afraid to speak my mind when it comes to adding to an aspect of the site that I feel is lacking and I'm certainly not nervous about getting things done. I have created several site skins and moderated the site those are on for a long while now without any real issues (trouble members like to try and torque me off regularly), and I think I could bring a lot to the community if provided the chance. I feel that the site could benefit from having me, and I could benefit from the position just as much.

Name: Whiskers Time Zone: EST Preferred Position: Bio-mod Qualifications: Weeeeeell I was an admin on a site once. You might know it-- FoF, anyone, anyone? Yeah, one of my duties as an admin was to check over bios and I worked alongside Rolo to develop FoF's unique bio-checking procedure, which tailored to improve an rper's writing skills. I also used to check bios at a looong long long long ago site, where I too, became admin. I'm very comfortable with bio checking and familiar with the site's history, so I can always work out discrepancies and the like. Past experience: Admin for FoF for roughly two years (before I was admin, I was a mod). Admin for another site whose name I forgot. I feel like that makes this qualification less legit. And it does. Uh. /cough Why you want the position:
Because I love FoF with all my stinkin' little heart. I can't get enough of it-- no really, like, I am incapable right now of coming on as much as I want, and I want to be as involved in that amount of time that I have. I think being a bio mod would be a perfect fit for me as I adjust to my busier schedule, giving me enough responsibility to still be involved with my beloved FoF-- as well as the staff-- and letting me give back to the site that has given me so much. I think I can do a good job. I think my bio critting skills are solid and that I can help others. It's really the perfect solution to my problem at this moment and I would love to be given the chance to try it out. Why you think you‘re right for the position: I'm very very very familiar with FoF, its history, the way we do things, what we're looking for etc. I have a bunch of experience, I'm passionate, I'm flexible, I probably won't need as much training and I work well with all the staff so far. I just ... love FoF so much. I embody the FoF spirit and I totally support FoF's goal in improving rpers and becoming a place to grow, as well as to have fun. I also adore bios and bio making and so doing it would actually really be fun for me and I'd definitely get into it.

Name: Amber
Time Zone: Central. Kudos to like the 5 of us applying.
Preferred Position: Bio-Mod.
Qualifications: Well, no real past experience from other sites. So, I'll go on and say my traits. I'm a hard worker. If I saw an application up, and finished, somehow in my mind-set I'd feel the need to look over it. Even if I'm dead tired, I'd read through something, that's what happens with stubbornness to complete things. If someone's bio honestly isn't cut out, I'll try to help them as much as possible to get the bio to where it need be. Actually, while typing this I did remember somewhat past experience.
A while back on Neopets, I was part of a guild. If I remember correctly, I think it was called like Hidden Past or something. I don't exactly remember what I did there. But the other warrior's guild I was in, I critiqued peoples cats before they could join. That one was called Secrets and Lies...or something. e.e
Why you want the position: I have three solid reasons for wanting to become one of FoFs lovely Bio-Mods. One, I like to critique things, and can dial down to whatever skill/critique level said applicant is at or asks for. Two, if I have to be here to read over applications, then I won't be inactive. Or that's at least how my mind rationalizes things. Having responsibility on the site, besides my lovely little kitties, would definitely help. Thirdly, FoF dying isn't something I ever want to see happen. If characters can't be looked over, then cats aren't accepted and....yeah, worse case scenario right there. But, I want to see the site grow farther.
Why you think you‘re right for the position: Is the part where we sell ourselves? Okay, well, I've been a part of Forest of Fate since almost its creation. Back as far as when THEM(still don't remember why it was called that) was recruiting for the site on Neo. I've been in the trenches for two years, though that wasn't active time. I'm only permitting to claim about maybe a year of it was where I was there at least once a week.
I've had at least 6 cats critiqued, so I know how the bio process works. If not, I can always look over that trusty guide again to ensure I'm not false on how I critique. I like working with people to build up characters. It just gives more inspiration for my own thoughts, and keeps my organizational skills up.

i think i'll give this a go.
Name: allie Time Zone: central Preferred Position: mod Qualifications: i'm organized, and i have a good eye for pointing out minor details in things. i'm particularly good with dealing with people and would help to solve problems on the cbox as well as enforce the rules. also, i have been a member at fof since it began, so i have a good knowledge of things happening on the site. due to being an admin on a site before, i know a bit about how forums work which helps to set up and manage boards. and lastly, i am open-minded and would be willing to learn any new skills i would need for the job. Past experience: co-admin on an old, old forum called cat's eye clans. i helped create and manage the forum and also critiqued bios. (duration- a few months before fof was made and the members flocked over here) that's all. Why you want the position: i want this position because it will be a big motivation for me to stay dedicated to fof and will give me a sense of responsibility. Why you think you‘re right for the position: i think i'm right for the position because i'm not totally new to helping run a site and i'm going to be especially helpful with assisting new members and moderating the chatbox.

Name: Nightfall
Time Zone: Eastern Standard Time (-5 hours)
Preferred Position: Mod
Qualifications: From other sites, I have coding skills. Recently I acquired Photoshop, which can be useful for making new skins. I have plenty of time on my hands and a willingness to get things in gear and make them happen. I'm friendly, and I like talking to new people. I'm a solid A student irl, and I'm especially good at english. I know how to resolve conflict due to my experiences with bullying, being bullied and watching bullies bully others, so I understand two of the sides quite well (the victim and the witness). I know what it takes to run a site and I know that unlike those last couple of times (with my own sites; see below), I believe I have what it takes because I've grown up quite a bit and have learned a lot of new things. I'm also strangely organized (unlike real life orz) when it comes to the internet.
Past experience: I've worked on a couple of sites on my own and with help from Hardy, Slug and Crow. They all didn't really get off the ground due to random disappearances and loss of interest. You can find the sites here, here and here. From these sites I learned valuable coding skills and how the admin panel works and such.
Why you want the position: I've always stood on the sidelines and watched the admins and mods take care of FoF. I've always wanted to be a part of that. I wanted to be able to say to someone "Do you need help with something? I can help you." It doesn't really work to ask someone that when you're a regular member, because you usually need them to an admin or mod almost immediately for a question you can't answer.
Why you think you‘re right for the position: I think I'm right for the position because I've been here for a long time, so I know how things work around FoF. I've been with FoF through the good times and bad, and while I may have been a pretty bratty member for the first little while, I think I've changed a lot. I've learned responsibility.I'm very friendly, and I enjoy making new friend. But all I really want is to feel the satisfaction of helping people.

Name: Pie Time Zone: Washington State: PST Preferred Position: Mod Qualifications: I know how to talk to people. I used to work in retail, customer service and currently am employed at a place that deals with customers every second of the day. I know how to manage my time, coming from a family of six, and have had experience managing my own sites and helping on others. I have been role playing now for eight years and enjoy helping people and creating a fun environment. I can use Photoshop, the only issue right now is not having the software at the moment, and am decent and formulating posts and messages. Why you want the position: I adore you guys and want to be more involved. As I stated above I enjoy helping others and like busy work. Also, I don't sleep so chances are I'll be here all the time fixing things, editing and/or finding something to do. Why you think you‘re right for the position: I get along with pretty much everyone. I don't recall fighting with any of the members ever. I also know how to diffuse situations and enjoy being here. I don't know if I'm the best candidate but I definitely want to be here more for you guys.
