Beliefs |
Nightpatch is very quiet about her beliefs. She knows that PineClan cats don't believe in StarClan, and she finds it a little hard to believe in cats that live in stars. She does, however, have things she believes in. She believes that all cats had one ancestor, who had a pelt with every color and eyes with every color that cats could have in their own features. She believes that he had kits who grew to be great cats, who formed the world and territories as cats in the present do. Rivers were trenches dug by a great cat to bring water to his family, while mountains were formed because an army of the First Cat's children who burrowed underground to create borders. Instead of going to StarClan, she believes that cats who die return to a never ending field of an eternal supply of prey, and a lovely river runs through it.

Appearance |
Nightpatch is a calico cat. She is white, and her pelt is speckled with ginger and black spots. Her paws are black, and she's got more dark spots than light ones. She is a little on the small side, not too far from average in size, though. She's slender with petite paws and a long tail for good balance. She appears to be quite a fragile cat, and bruises easily, although she can stand a lot of pain. She has a thin muzzle and a cute little pink nose, which is good for reaching into small nooks and crannies. Her petite paws are good for keeping quiet, and she's a very light walker.
She has a very well-kept pelt, and is always grooming it whenever she has the chance. Her fur is a little long, as well as her thin silver-looking whiskers. Her fur seems to get just a little longer during Leaf Bare, but other than that it doesn't change much over the year. It's thick and soft, and during some colder winter nights she proves to be a nice addition in the Warriors Den. She has a small ginger patch over her left eye, and has black markings over both eyes. Her paws and the tip of her tail is black, which was why she was named Nightkit (her markings were darker than bright Dawnkit's, but not as speckled as Gravelkit's). Her long tail is also very fluffy, which can be bad at times since she'll come back after hunting or patrolling to find that there are leaves and twigs embedded in the longer fur.
Lastly, but not least, Nightpatch has gorgeous green eyes, probably her most memorable feature. Large and round, her eyes are a bright and vivid, yet deep and solid shade of green. Her emotions are very readable in her eyes, but because her emotions get so jumbled, it's sometimes difficult to pick out just one specific one. Overall, she has a very friendly yet fragile appearance. She looks like a very trust-worthy cat and doesn't seem to be much of a threat on first glance.
Personality |
Nightpatch is a very timid young she-cat. She looks frightened most of the time, or cold, often wearing a worried/concerned expression or shaking/shivering slightly. She is very tolerant of many things, and doesn't get annoyed easily. She has a very, very long temper, and will stand a lot of abuse before finally getting angry. When she finally gets angry and snaps (if someone can get her to do that after much effort) she often pours out all her emotions and thoughts, finally raising her voice to get them across. She does cool down quickly, though, and after letting everything out she'll feel a lot better. Some of the few things that can make her angry one the first go or will take a long time for her to cool down from is someone hurting kits, betraying an entire Clan for one's own selfish reasons, or killing without reason. She'll often try to think up excuses for others to prevent herself from getting angry, but it doesn't always work. Do not judge her as weak, because weak is something that she is not. She has her moments to shine...
She is very caring for all her Clanmates, which is one of her better traits. She's concerned more over others than herself, and will venture into danger just to rescue another cat, especially a young one. She is sympathetic toward the elders and will visit them to keep them company. She was raised to be kind, but her own fragility and need for others helped to make her grow to appreciate her Clan and fellow cats.
Around other cats, she's very timid and shy. She sometimes stutters when she gets nervous, especially when she meets someone new. She isn't willing to start fights, and will take a lot of abuse without fighting back because she is afraid to fight. She feels a strong sense of safety from being surrounded by her Clanmates, as well and anxiousness because she knows that her life is in her their paws at times. She would go out hunting if it meant that her Clan would eat when prey was scarce (even if she's not much good at it), and in dier situations she would go out and try to fight.
She tries to find a positive point in everyone, although sometimes it's challenge. She tries to convince the other cats not to start fights, and will try to argue for why it's a bad idea. However, other than that, she will not often voice other opinions. If she does, she will keep her voice down and state them timidly. Her parents both thought that she would be a Medicine Cat, mostly because she was so much more fragile and timid than the other kits. She was a little excited to be made a warrior, but nervous... very, very nervous. She admires the Medicine Cat for everything they do. She has been made strong from her past experiences and harsh training as an apprentice.
Overall, she is timid, shy, but loves to help her Clan and Clanmates and has enough concern to go around.
Skills |
Nightpatch is very kind and compassionate. Surprisingly enough, she is an excellent hunter. She is a very good runner as well, and can run at a fairly fast pace for a very good amount of time. She is a fair climber, and can stand a lot of pain. Most of these traits are due to her training, and she thanks her old mentor mentally on numerous occassions. She is very bright; not as militaristically clever as Raggedpelt, my other character, but she is smart. She will find other ways around obstacles, and is willing to go exploring to find said ways.
Now, for the downsides. She is a rather timid cat, so she doesn't give a very good impression as deputy. Because of this, a stranger would not assume she is as clever as she can be. She is not a very good fighter, and while she is able to stand a lot of pain, that means she will deal with a lot of pain before doing something. While she wont stand for someone hurting her Clan mates, she can be a doormat at times and let others insult her, etc, without speaking out. That also gives a bad impression. She never learned how to swim, also, which could prove to be an issue.
Nightpatch would make a good Medicine Cat, but she does make a good deputy. Her concern for her Clanmates means that she will do everything in her power to take care of them. She is a good adviser, but does better with one-on-one conversations rather than speaking out to a crowd. Speaking in front of a crowd is something she will need to get used to...
History |
Nightkit was born with two sisters. Her mother had recently left her life as a kittypet to join PineClan, and her father was an active warrior in the Clan. She was named Nightkit she had more black patches than either of her sisters. Dawnkit had brighter fur and Gravelkit's darker speckled pelt resembled the bed of rocks she was named after. Nightkit was a bit of a weakling, and tended to stay close to her mother rather than venture off to play with the other kits. Both her mother and her father thought that she would be a Medicine Cat rather than a warrior, so they filled her head with the many expectations of being chosen as Med Cat's apprentice. She kept getting bruises and such, so she was often visiting the den. Nightkit's father died when she was only two moons old, so she didn't know him very well. What she remembers most about him was that he was a strong and brave warrior, and he was very ambitious. He wanted all his kits to be great and strong warriors, so Nightkit was a bit of a disappointment. He tried to be proud when his mother said that she was destined to be a Medicine Cat, because she would hold a high rank and be a big part of the Clan. That was the proudest he had ever been of her... and he had only lived two weeks long enough to stay that proud.
Nightpaw was both surprised and scared to hear that she would be given a warrior as her mentor. She feared the worst; that she would be completely useless to her Clan and that she would get kicked out. Luckily for her, her father wasn't around to know of it... He was in the Fields of Never Ending Prey... Her mentor, Stoneheart, had a very fitting name. He was very strict and very harsh, so Nightpaw was in for a very long training period. Her first few moons in training were like torture... She was trained harshly and punished often; when she didn't catch anything, she wouldn't eat. When she didn't finish cleaning the elder's den, she would sleep outside. When she lost fights, she would get her tail whooped by Stoneheart. Her sister, Dawnpaw, quit at this point. She left the Clans and went off with a rouge tom, Ash. Nightpaw fet abandoned by her sister, but she still had Gravelwhiskers to keep her company. Her mother had left right after she was made into an apprentice, and lived in Twoleg place, where Nightpaw was always frightened to venture.
Nightpatch gained her warrior name (eventually), and was very proud to do so. On the night of her vigil, Stoneheart approached her an announced that he was leaving, because there was a cat he loved who lived outside the Clans. This was the second time someone Nightpatch was close to left for someone else (she didn't love him, but he was her mentor and she felt abandoned when he left). She realized that her harsh training was to make her ready for life as a warrior, which was something her sister hadn't been properly prepared for. Gravelwhiskers was very lazy, and didn't pay much mind to the warrior code. She would wander over to the border often, and fell in love with StoneClan cat. One day, however, he hit his head while swimming and started to sink. Gravelwhiskers jumped in to save him, however it was a stormy day and the waves were high, and both were carried off by the river and never seen of heard from again. Because of all these past events, Nightpatch is hesitant to look for a mate, or even to make friends quickly. She fears loneliness, though, and has nightmares about being abandoned completely.
Nightpatch received an apprentice, Vinepaw. Vinepaw was named after his abnormally long and wiry tail. He was very ambitious, and was a quick learner. Nightpatch loved training him, and loved having an apprentice. His training seemed to fly by, though, and soon he had earned his warrior name. Very soon after finishing mentoring him, she was made Deputy. She never knew why the leader had chosen her of all cats, but she appreciated it greatly and will try to be the best deputy possible!

I figured I'd post a sample of what would happen if she were made deputy:
The calico she-cat opened her green eyes slowly, staring straight at the wall of the warrior's den. She didn't move a muscle, taking a second to wake up completely before daring to move. She didn't want to risk stumbling out, not when she had just recently been appointed Clan deputy. She had to look like she knew what she was doing; she didn't want to be judged as a bad deputy and replaced. She knew she could do it! ...Right? Deciding that walking around in a slightly tired state was better than being late to join the Dawn patrol, the she-cat rose to her paws and padded out, blinking a few times as her eyes adjusted to the pink-isk morning light. Mornings were always nice; it meant a new day, a clean slate, and another chance to start again. Or at least, to her it did.
Yawning quickly, Nightpatch made her way over to the Fresh Kill pile, looking to grab a quick snack before she left. However, when she reached it, she found that the quantity of available food was low. The hunting party must not have left yet. The kits and queens would need to eat, as well as the elders. I'd better leave this all for them, she thought, earning an angry growl from her stomach. She didn't want to, but as deputy she could last longer without food than an older or nursing cat, right? She shook her head, If I take something, everyone will think poorly of me... And besides, there are other cats who need it more... Grudgingly, the she-cat continued walking, heading over to where the dawn patrol was meeting up.
What she didn't realize was that she had skipped a meal the other day as well, and she would eventually make herself weak if she kept it up. No, she shouldn't take anything before the other cats, but she wasn't supposed to skip eating entirely. The calico would make herself sick if she didn't realize that she needed to eat as well, but at that point, she wasn't too concerned. What's the worst that could happen? she kept telling herself, It's just one less mouse you'll eat, silly; stop thinking about it and you wont be so hungry!
"G-good morning, everyone!" she chimed, looking over at the group of warriors who were going to Patrol as well. She would worry about food when she got back; if there was anything left. For now, the biggest thing she had to worry about was patrolling and making sure that no cats had crossed the border, and that none were getting ready to either. It was a new morning, a clean slate, and a chance for her to start over from her old position. She could prove herself... She could do it...
((The above is a real weakness she has ^ She will push herself and make herself sick/weak because of it without even realizing, so the Med Cat or leader/next deputy would have to keep a bit of an eye on her. That could be good for a possible plot in the future...))
