Hello, fellow daemians! In keeping with our long history of these threads, it is my pleasure and honor to start the third thread of this topic and the first one on v2!
However, before we begin, it is my duty to inform newcomers that we can’t discuss things on this topic outside this thread, and NEVER on the cbox. We must respect it, so please do. :3
On a happier note, I believe (despite the various members who are gone) we still have various daemians among us. Introduce yourselves!
I’d like to thank Stormy for reminding me to do this, by the way. I (as you probably know) am Cloudie, secretary and resident insane person. My daemon-
Mil: Of course, miss pompous is getting arrogant enough to try and introduce me instead of, you know, me doing it. I’m Milidraus Solvare Voltaire, (pronounced MIL-lid-ross Soul-vah-ray Vol-tare) but you can just call me Mil. Cloudie is an idiot, but at least she finally remembered to start the thread. I’m unsettled (for better or for worse) but I do enjoy being a bat. Cloudie and I have been talking to each other for…gosh, almost six years now. She hasn’t gotten much smarter, despite my wise and sensitive guidance. It’s nice to meet you all.
Me: She has a gift for sarcasm, and don’t believe much of what she says.
Mil: HA. Other way around.
Me: ANYWAY. Step right up and join the fun!
Mil: OR DIE. Just kidding. We’ll only maim you. /shotdead
Mil: Also, I have mad naming skills. Just saying.
Me: That’s what she’d like to think. All kinds of discussion and debate are welcome, and so are questions.

Yessssssssssssssss it's the dæmon thread!
Um so since I'm not really that active on FoF for the time being, I'll just go ahead and say that I'm Thistle, just an awkward bumbly girlthing who's main obsession is watching Doctor Who. My daemon's Kharnassial (although I only use his name for introductions; I never actually call him that) and he doesn't really talk much-Say what sista?-anddd he's currently an unsettled herding dog. Either a pembroke welsh corgi or a shetland sheepdog; both fit really well.
He's not sarcastic, at least for a daemon, since the majority of the daemians I know have really snarky ones..? eheh :3 So hiya.

Mil: Eh, I can be snarky, but oftentimes I'm not. I remember you, Kharn! How's life?
Me: THISTLE WHY YOU NO ACTIVE. D8 I was beginning to think you were gone...again.

So, I seem to have lost contact with mine. Xen, wasn't he? I don't know why, but I just stopped hearing him. Input? Thoughts? I'm thinking maybe I just don't need him anymore.

Mil: -tilts head- Perhaps it's not that you don't need him anymore so much that you may not need him NOW. It's perfectly possible he may return to you, or you to him. It's certainly true that Cloudie and I go through periods where we don't talk to each other, but we usually do chat at least once a day.

Well, I mean like literally no contact whatsoever since my flight to Chicago in July of last year.

Glowy, you may have the same issue as I do. Aerroww doesn't speak to me directly - he is, mostly, my imagination. He's what fuels my need to be in an almost constant dreamlike state and fills me with ideas and plans that are usually buried deep in my mind. He doesn't even have a form to me. Now, sometimes he'll jump in and talk to me directly, especially if I'm stressed, worried or afraid. But mostly, he just plays as my imagination.

Mil: Hmm. Fascinating. That's very interesting, Nightfall. I do remember you saying something along those lines before...the idea of a daemon as a force for pure creativity...I like it.
Me: Huh. Well, this is to Glowy - but do you want to talk to Xen? Or do you just not really care either way? I'm just curious. o3o
Mil: While of course I'd love to talk to Xen, it may be that as Glowy says, he's faded into the depths of their mind because there's no need for him as a speaking presence, and perhaps he's become like Aerrow?
Me: Mil and I have certainly gone through weeks or even days when we didn't talk, but we always seem to have some sort of permanent bond that doesn't wear out. I'm not sure why that is, though I have my theories.

Glowy, I haven't seen my guy in quite some time. The other night I heard him though when I got really pissed and needed to keep my head. My anger kinda, vanished of sorts, because he startled me.
Back to my original point, I think I hadn't been hearing him, or seeing him, for awhile because I didn't need him. However my life has been kicked up again and I feel more at ease communicating with him. I haven't tried projecting him at all but I still see him as that black wolf in my mind's eye. He has no name still, but seems to be okay with that.
He's just there, old and wise sounding. Quite calm but pushes me to defend myself with dignity and calmness. We'll see what happens over time, but for now he kinda just guides me.

Nightfall: What kind of imagination?
Cloudie: You know, I'm really not sure. I've kind of forgotten a lot about this whole deal, so, given the ways I've grown in the past year or so, I'm not really sure what would happen. But I don't think I do.
Pie: Interesting. So now that you're busier, you find yourself needing him again? Am I understanding you correctly?
The idea behind this is very intriguing to me. To have the ability to communicate with your own mind as a separate entity, and somehow have it all be one... I really want to know how Pullman thought of it. I've heard of some things that are very similar to daemons, so similar that I'm wondering if they're connected somehow. How do you first make contact with your daemon, again? Do you have to clear your mind or anything, or does it just... happen?

More or less, Glowy, yes. When my life gets busy, with work, watching my siblings, other minor things adding up, I have issues keeping my head sometimes because I dont get out much.
It's in those moments that I can connect with my Daemon, or whatever you want to call it. It's the fact that I feel stressed and unsure of what is really going on with my life I suppose. The calmer I feel with myself the less I communicate with him it seems.

Haihai.
Rio and I have been exploring names as well as forms. With Cloudie's help we found 'Relwin' which has settled into sort of a last name as we try out 'Jacquenrio Relwin'. He'd been slinking around as a border collie/flitting around as a magpie for a week or two, but recently today he's taken to being around my neck as a black mamba. I've never even considered snakes (the few time he HAS been a snake I haven't taken it seriously), much less a black mamba...BUT. A few days ago I watched Kill Bill vol 2. Which has a 'black mamba' in it, whiiiich peaked my interest. However, I didn't think anything of it until I went to the daemon page and read the reverse analysis of someone who has settled as a black mamba. I was surprised to see how much of it fit. o-o
In any case, yet another example of how you can't really put a time limit on when your daemon will settle, or be too sure. Cause I was about ready to say that I'm a border collie.
ANYWHO.
Relevant to the current discussion: Rio and I usually just end up talking. Especially when I start to rant and rave out loud about something and he 'pulls me back' to talk in my mind instead. Usually I go to him though, and if we haven't talked in a while I ask him weird simple questions like 'What color is the sky, what color is the grass', which has turned into like...our 'hello' in some cases. XD Most of the time though, I don't hear Rio as speaking, so much as like....feelings? MY GUT, I GUESS. For example, if I make a drabble that's way over the limit, he's the '...Just post it anyway. Cause otherwise you're just going to end up rewriting it.' part of my mind.
